"tremendous" and growing
number of single Jews who
want to make new friends of
both sexes in a setting
which also recognizes their
needs for intellectual and
cultural experiences.
The "congregation within
congregations" is the goal of
the innovative project
started by the rabbi of one
of the participating congre-
gations, Rabbi Daniel A.
Roberts, spiritual leader of
Temple Emanu El.
The project, which will
not require the singles to
join the participating syn-
agogues, grew out of a
Shabat service for such sin-
gles at Temple Emanu El
attended by 250 of the sin-
gles.
Rabbi Roberts told the
worshippers that Jewish
congregations must be-
come "sensitized" to the
"sleeping giant" of the
singles. He described them
as a- group whose members
are expressing growing
dissatisfaction with syn-
agogues throughout the
country as being unres-
ponsive to their special
needs.
He said the Friday night
WE WISH. YOU HAPPINESS
RICHARD H. LOVE, C.L.U.
Once again, we are celebrating the feast of the Passover, a time to
recall our past suffering and rejoice at our historic escape to freedom.
It is also a time for the gathering together of families and for the attend-
ant rebirth of individual strength and fortitude on the part of each fam-
ily member.
Because the strengthening of farriilies . . . especially through the provi-
sion of financial security . . . is of great concern to those in the Life
Insurance industry, this becomes a time of rededication to the highest
principles of our calling..
We pledge sincere and faithful service to our clients and friends in help-
ing them to provide financial security for their families.
At this time, we extend to all our sincerest wishes for a happy Passover.

THE DOMINION LIFE ASSURANCE COMPANY
Our Success Is Built on a Firm Foundation of Sincere Service
service was one of a series
and had been the initial
meeting of a "congregation"
of singles which he said was
in formation, adding that
the idea grew out of a class
for singles only at an adult
education forum at his syn-
agogue.
He said the projected sin-
gles "congregation" would
be one "without walls," with
no plans to build a separate
synagogue or to hire a rabbi.
He said it was expected that
the singles would ultimately
join the 13 cooperating syn-
agogues in the Cleveland
area, with gatherings of
members of the "congre-
gation" held at the various
synagogues.
Rabbi Roberts said that
many members of the initial
class felt there was no place
for them in the Jewish corn-
munity.
He reported also that
many of the singles felt that
the- "contrived socials" tak-
ing place in the city are
nothing more than a de-
grading "come and look and
see."

Blind Scholar Gets
Dropsie Grant
PHILADELPHIA — A
colossal achievement, made
all the more remarkable
because it is the work of a
blind scholar now in Israel
who had to use Braille and
memory for a most signifi-
cant scholarly work, was
made-possible by a grant
from the Dropsie Univer-
sity.
Funds made available to
Dropsie from the Lucius N.
Littauer Foundation in New
York City, were awarded to
Eliezar Katz for his work on
two reference indexes to the
Bible.
Katz collected and classi-
fied tens of thousands of
biblical references, alpha-
betically arranged by sub-
ject, in "A Classified Con-
cordance to the Torah" and
"A Classified Concordance
to the Late Prophets." Both
works were published by
the Central Press in Jerusa-
lem.
