Meyer Zacks, 83

Meyer Zacks, a pharma-
cist for 59 years, died March
31 at age 83.
Born in Russia, Mr. Zacks
lived 60 years in Detroit.
The former owner of
Brown's Drugs on 12th St.
and Seward, Mr. Zacks re-
tired eight years ago.
He was a charter member
of Temple Israel, a member
of the Zionist Organization
of Detroit, Pisgah Lodge of
Bnai Brith, American Jew-
ish Congress and the Michi-
gan Pharmaceutical Asso-
ciation. He resided at 16300
North Park Dr., Southfield.
He leaves his wife, Han-
nah; a son, Joel; and four
grandchildren.

State Psychiatric Associa-
tion and the Wayne and
Oakland County Medical
Associations.
She is survived by two
brothers, George Rickart
and Nathan Rabin of For-
mosa; and a niece, Mona
Rickart.

Norman Altus, 65

Norman Altus, founder
and owner of the Altus Non-
Ferrous Metal Co., founded
1931, died March 31 at age
65.
Born in Poland, Mr. Altus
lived more than 50 years in
Detroit. He was a member
of the Scrap Metal Dealers
Association of Detroit and
Chernikover Aid Society. He
resided at 22001 Marlow,
Oak Park.
He leaves his wife, Bess;
two daughters, Mrs. Saul
(Rona) Grossman and Mrs.
Gary (Susan) Weinberg; one
sister; and four grandchil-
dren. Services 10 a.m. today
at Ira Kaufman Chapel.

Judith Chicorel, Helped Start
Sephardic Community Here

Judith Chicorel, who with
her husband, the late Jacob
Chicorel, founded the Se-
phardic Community of
Greater Detroit in 1917,
died March 25 at age 79.
Born in Izmir, Turkey, to
Spanish Jewish parents,
Mrs. Chicorel came to De-
troit in 1916 with her hus-
band and one son, Max. Her
husband served as spiritual
leader for the community
until his death in 1963.
Mrs. Chicorel's home was
the gathering place for Se-
phardic Jews in the commu-
nity. She spoke Ladino,
Spanish, French, Greek and
English.
She was a member of the
American Red Cross,
Cong. Beth Shalom's sis-
terhood, Hadassah and the
Oak Park Senior Citizens
group. In 1975, she was
honored by the Sephardic
Community with the
"Mother of the Sephardic
Community" award.
Mrs. Chicorel resided at
21830 Beverly, Oak Park.
She leaves four sons, Max
of Pompano Beach, Fla.,
Albert, David and Ralph of

Frieda Shnitz Goode,
longtime proponent of Zion-
ism and active in the move-
ment, died March 25 at age
65.
Mrs. Goode was the
daughter of pioneer Zionist
activists, Mrs. and Mrs. Sam
Shnitz, who were leaders in
major Zionist movements in
.the 1920s. She pursued the
family tradition for many
years.
Mrs. Goode was a mem-
ber of Hadassah,. Pioneer
Women and Women's
American ORT.
She leaves her husband,
Ben; a son, Dr. Michael
Goode of Potomac, Md.; a
brother, Peter Shnitz of Cal-
ifornia; and two grandchil-
dren.
