THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Medal Honors Jewish Soldiers NEW YORK — The Israel Government Coins and Med- als Corp., Ltd., has issued a new medal in tribute to the Jewish soldiers who fought for the liberation of Israel during World War II. The obverse of the medal contains a verse from Is- aiah, "Here am I; send me," in Hebrew and English, to- gether with the Israeli flag. On the rim, in Hebrew and English: "1939-1946 the Yis- huv's volunteers in the Bri- sh Forces." On the reverse, in the cen- ter and in Hebrew, is the verse from Tractate Berak- hot (62): "If a man means to kill you, strike first." The Hebrew letters Kof Sofit and Lamed are depicted in the form of drawn swords opposed. Along the rim runs the English translation of the verse. On the right is a replica of the yellow badge, which Jews were required to wear during the Nazi re- gime. April 2, 1976 19 For 4 Generations Rabbinical Court Conversion Plan Proposal Opposed NEW YORK (JTA) — The Committee for Jewish Sur- vival (CJS), an Orthodox ad hoc committee, has charged that the Knesset is consider- ing a proposal to create a special Rabbinical Court to consider conversions in Is- rael whose only purpose is to make conversions easier. "In accepting converts, there is only one unalterable procedure, conversion ac- cording to all the require- ments of the Halakha," Mi- chael Davidson, a spokes- man for CJS, declared. Davidson noted that the bill was introduced by , a Labor Alignment Knesset member and has been sent to a Knesset committee with the agreement of the Minister of Religious Af- fairs, Yitzhak Rafael. A Rabbinical Court can only be set up by rabbis and not by the Knesset, Davidson said. The CJS seeks to have Is- rael's Law of Return amended so that only those converted according to Ha- lakha can be considered Jewish. Youth Settlement Started on Golan TEL AVIV (JTA) — A new group of young people settling on the Golan Heights was inaugurated recently at the Har Odem settlement.
