NEW YORK: — A nation-
wide "Why I am a Zionist"
essay competition, open to
Jewish children of high
school age, has been an-
nounced by Dr . Joseph P.
Sternstein, president of the
Zionist Organization of
America.
The prizes in the competi-
tion are 60 $1,000 one-year
partial scholarships to the
Mollie Goodman Academic
High School in Israel. The
school, which has 10th, 11th
and 12th grade English-
speaking classes, is located
on the 520-acre Kfar Silver
campus, near Ashkelon, Is-
rael
An effort to enlist ZOA
Regions and Districts in the
project, as well as other lo-
cal bodies, such as- federa-
tions, synagogues, commu-
nity centers and fraternal
organizations is now under-
way. The ZOA national of-
fice has sent 4,000 letters to
a broad range of local and
national addresses in the
Jewish community in an
attempt to attract co-spon-
sors who would increase the
size of the scholarships
available to $2,000 per stu-
dent.
Winners of the essay com-
petition will be announced
in mid-May. Individuals and
schools wishing to partici-
pate may contact the De-
partment for High School
Education in Israel, Zionist
Organization of America,
ZOA House, 4 East 34th St.,
New York, N.Y. 10016.

The Meyer and Nathan
Fishman Family Founda-
tion will provide an Israel
Award in the sum of $1,000
each to five outstanding
high school students who
will visit Israel during the
summer of 1976. This award
will be administered by the

the Fishman family will
provide these scholarships,
enabling five students from
the 10th-12th grades, resid-
ing in the Tri-County area
who attend a Jewish high
school, to visit Israel under
the auspices of an approved
national or regional group.
Applicants, who must
apply by April 9, will be
judged by academic
achievement, leadership,
and community service.
Financial need will also be
considered. The award
encourages young people
to continue their religious
education and to gain in-
spiration from the land of
Israel.

Torah Fund Day

SUMMER 1976 IN ISRAEL AWARDS

Young Israel Teens will
hold a Torah Fund Day be-
ginning 1 p.m. Sunday at
Young Israel of Greenfield.
There will be several pro-
grams in relation to collect-
ing for the Torah Fund.
The group will hold its
foUrth annual Torah Fund
Music Festival 7:30 p.m.
April 4 at Young Israel of
Oak-Woods. For ticket in-

The Meyer and Nathan Fishman Family Foundation an-
nounces five $1,000 awards to outstanding high school stu-
dents from the 10th-12th grades in the Tri-County area of
Greater Detroit who will spend the summer of 1976 in Israel.
Applicants must be enrolled in a Jewish high school. They will
be judged by academic achievement, leadership, and commu-
nity service. Financial need will also be considered.
These Israel Awards are administered by the Jewish Edu-
cators Council of Metropolitan Detroit. Application forms are
available from Jewish Educators or the Council's President,
Cantor Arthur Asher, Temple Israel, 17400 Manderson Road,
Detroit, Michigan 48203. Applications must be received by Can-
tor Asher no later than Friday, April 9.
