Pioneer Women — Bonds Event Speaker to Be Eleazar Lipsky

Eleazar Lipsky, attorney,
novelist and playwright,
will speak at the annual Pi-
oneer Women-Israel Bond
Tribute Luncheon April 8 at
the Town and Country Club
in Southfield.
Mrs. Ralph Miller, Pi-
oneer Women Council presi-
dent, made the announce-
ment.
The event will honor Mrs.
Alice Ross of Southfield,
designated as Pioneer Wom-
en's "Woman of the Year."
Mrs. Ross will receive the
David Ben-Gurion Award
from the State of Israel
Bond Organization "for
service to Israel, her organi-
zation and her community."
Lipsky has successfully
combined an outstanding
career as lawyer and author
with service in, many Jewish
causes. He is former presi-
dent and now chairman of
the board of directors of the

is currently the American
Affairs chairman of- the
National Board of Pioneer
Women.

sent to more than 2,500 per-
sons in the metropolitan
area who work with the
Council as delegates or pres-
idents of affiliated organiza-
tions, or as members of the
Council's standing commit-
tees.
At the same time, the
Council urged its affiliate
organizations and their
members to communicate
with President Ford and the
Congress about the Admin-
istration's anticipated sale
to Egypt of six C-130 mili-
tary transport airplanes.
The Council also reported
that Augustus J. Calloway,
columnist for the Michigan
Chronicle, Michigan's
weekly black community
newspaper, is currently
touring Israel as part of a
national media tour.
Arrangements for Callo-
way's trip were facilitated
by the Jewish Community
Council.

Probes Its Effectiveness

Sam Jaffee ,'and Mrs. Alex (Bessie) Kalish hold a
certificate attesting to the planting of a garden of 100
trees planted through Jewish National Fund by resi-
dents of the Jewish Home for Aged. This activity was
part of a group effort to mark Tu b'Shevat. A life-size
papier mache tree, was fashioned and was placed in the
lobby of Borman Hall. Each time a tree was purchased, a
leaf was added. Some of the residents, who are in the 80s
or 90s gave their spending money. There are 300 resi-
dents of Borman Hall in Detroit and Prentis Manor in
Southfield. Charles Wolfe is executive director and
Cheryl Riskin, the activities director.
