Bella Hordes Honored on 80th Birthday; Services Cited

birthday.

sion to cite the many serv-
ices she and he late husband

Jewish causes.
Mrs. Hordes, the former
Bella Savelewitz, was
born in Bobruisk, Russia,
in 1896. She was married
to William Hordes in 1917
and their 47 years of mar-
ried life were marked by
devotions to Zionism, Is-
rael and this community's
congregational life. Mr.
Hordes died in 1964.
Mrs. Hordes shared with
her husband, who gained
the title "Mister JNF," a
deep interest in the Jewish
National Fund. A JNF for-
est in Israel and the Yuval
Playground are only a part
of the couple's Israeli pro-
jects they sponsored that
bear their names.
With her husband, Mrs.
Hordes established the

They took a deep inter-
est in the Lubavitcher
Hasidic movement and
Mrs. Hordes continues her
support of the Chabad
movement, its schools and
its Michigan camping ac-
tivities as well as national
projects.
Among the most recent
services rendered by Mrs.
Hordes was her gift of an
ambulance to Israel through
Magen David Adorn, the Is-
raeli equivalent of the Red
Cross.
Mrs. Hordes' many affi-
liations and movements in
which she retains an active
interest intlude Israel
Bonds, Hadassah, Pioneer
Women, Zedakah Club, Far-
band and numerous other
causes.
To mark the occasion,
Mrs. Hordes this week
contributed generously to-
ward the recreational area
of the JNF American Bi-
centennial National Park
near. Jerusalem, honoring
her children and grand-
children.
Mrs. Hordes has two sons,
Earl and Herbert, who re-
