Brothers gave the "db's
Club" grand 'opening at the
Hyatt Regency in Dearborn
an auspicious beginning
. . . The elegantly beautiful
room that comes close to
looking like a Las Vegas
spot, is presenting a parade
of "name" talent to go with
its specialty drinks and
nightly dancing to Johnny
Trudell.
Of the Mills Brothers,
what can be said other than
they are still fabulous . . .
Their self-discipline is one
of the things that has kept
them on top for so many
years . . . They opened
their show with Mills mil-
lions like "Opus One,"
"Paper Doll" (over six mil-
lion records sold), "You're
Nobody 'Til Somebody
Loves You," "Up A Lazy
River," "You Always Hurt
The One You Love" . . . and
one of their first recordings
(1928), "Bye Bye Blackbird."
1975 marks their 50th
anniversary in show busi-
ness . . . on records, radio,
television, stage, nightclubs
and movies . . . In 1925, at
the ages of 10, 12, 13 and 15,
(Donald, Harry, Herbert
and John Jr. respectively),
they were first billed as
"Four Boys and a Guitar"
. . . Their father, John Sr.,
a concert singer . . . and
one of the town's leading
barbers . . . taught the boys
to sing . . . When John Jr.
died in 1936, he was, re-
placed by, the father, until
his own death in 1968 at age
of 85.
The present trio is made
up of Harry, the group's
spokesman; Herbert, who
wears the glasses and is the
senior member, and Don,
the bearded "baby" of the
family . . . and great friend
of former Detroiter Sid
Hudson in Las Vegas.
Our waitress at Hyatt-
Regency's "db's Club" was
pretty Jo Thornton, an ex-
cellent cocktail waitress in-
dicative of the kind of gals
selected for this new spot
. . . summed up in one word
. . . CLASS.
-Frankie Avalon opens for
a week at "db's Club" this
Monday.

My folks eat all they want for just
$4.25 each. And kids under
twelve, just $2.25. So get your
family, and your two favorite
meals, together this Sunday
at Stouffer's.
From 11 till 1:30.

Stouffer's calls it a brunch. Mom
calls it a rest. And I say it's the
best way to eat breakfast and
lunch at the very same time.
You'll fill up on all kinds of
yummy things like
eggs, bacon and
sausage. And a
wide variety
of entrees. Plus
a big salad
bar and
dessert bar.
All you
I Stouffer's. American Express, other major credit cards honored.
can eat.

race on Orchard Lake at 12
-Mile . . . Bob McDonald
and Robert Fraccia . . . has
been started with their at-
torneys Abe Selesny and
Paul Joelson . . . and a few
others . . . They have pur-
chased Centaur Farms in
West Bloomfield . . . as a
three-fold biggie project
. . . A casual restaurant
and mini farmer's market
are expected to be opened by
early summer . . . An in-
door ice arena date is set for
late summer . . . with the
restaurant overlooking it.
WENT WITH son Scott
and his boyfriend Tom Fine -
for some good down-to-
earth home cooking at Dim-
itri's. on Woodward, two
blocks north of 11 Mile Rd.
. . . Scott had canneloni,
and Tom finally found a
place where he couldn't fin-
ish everything after digging
into the spaghetti with meat
sauce and meat balls . . .
My breaded veal steak was a
pleasure to eat . . . Hard to
beat, Dimitri's on Woodward
for a good solid meal in so
' many -ethnic categories . . .
Italian, Greek, American,
French, etc. . . . and prices
are very right . . . Owner-
chef Nicholas, who does the
home-cooking from 5:30
a.m. (it opens at 7 and closes
at 11 p.m.) has been a top
chef at many spots and
knows how food should be
prepared.
Our waitress, Lynn
Smith, brought Tom a little
cake for his 15th birthday
and while the candles glim-
mered, she joined with wait-
resses Debbie Copeland and
Melissa Dawson as the
"Dimitri Trio" in singing
Happy Birthday to Scott's
young friend.

on guitar and vocals . . .
Some day soon, Pat Haack,
who used to belt them out at
the London Chop House,
will also be vocalizing at
Fior d' Italia.
The chopped sirloin steak
at John Young's spot was a
"must" on our schedule of
trying them all over town
. . . to find out whether it is
just a couple of patties
thrown together ar a bonaf-
ide c.s. steak . . . It proved
to be the latter . . . cooked
exactly as we like it, me-
dium rare . . . and a very
good grade of meat . . . one
of the best chopped sirloins
we've had in a long time.
