According to Arthur Kranish, a Washington science writer, "no further details were given" about Israel's nuclear capability by the officials at a "rare" and "nonclassified" briefing by the CIA at its headquart- ers in Virginia March 11. Kranish, editor of the newsletter "Science Trends" who attended the briefing and wrote about it for the Washington Post, said that the briefing was attended by some 150 persons and Israel Gives Aid to Ecuador for Reforestation Projects QUITO, Ecuador (JTA) — About three years ago Ecua- dor initiated a series of refo- restation projects and Coop- erative agricultural settlements with the aid of Israeli advisers. (Conscription CAME Agropecuaria Militar de Ecuador) is modeled after the Nahal system, in which a small group of Israeli sol- diers train together, work as a volunteer unit on a kibutz and when discharged form a cooperative farming village. Asked about his article, Kranish said the CIA offi- cials had asserted that in advance of the Syrian and Egyptian attacks on Israel on Yom Kippur, 1973, the CIA had at least one report of the certainty of the at- tack and other reports that were less certain it would take place. The report of the cer- tainty was discarded be- cause of the disbelief that Egypt and Syria could coor- dinate their attacks as they did, Kranish said he heard the CIA officials say. In a telephone statement read by a CIA official to the JTA, Bush said "We have no comment on any of the sub- mander of CAME, explained that the 800 soldiers com- prising the unit at any one time are drafted for one year's service. Three months are spent in agricultural training followed by an ad- ditional three months at one of several reforestation sites or colonization areas. The colonization zones are centered in the oil producing region on the border with Colombia in the town of Lagro Agria and in Sangolqui, just south of the capital city, Quito. Settlements composed of 80-100 demobilized CAME soldiers and their families radiate out from the central army camps found in both northern Ecuadorian towns. As this level is reached in one place new settlements are established in nearby areas, with support pro- vided' by the same central- ized camp. Capt. Omri Negev, Israeli tank cammander from Mos- hav Bertuvia, is beginning his fourth year as agricul- tural adviser to the pro- gram. Projects like CAME have worked to cement firm bonds in the past and con- tinue to offer further bene- fits to both Ecuador and Is- rael through cooperative development action. stantive information in the Post article one way or the other. Kranish said that those attending were told not to bring cameras or take notes and not to talk to the press. But he noted there were several reporters, including himself, present. Bush, in his statement, Israel Supporter Invited to Egypt PARIS (JTA) — One of the biggest Paris supporters of Israel's cause, singer En- rico Macias, said that the Egyptian Embassy had in- vited him to come to Egypt for a series of concerts. Macias, who has often been at the top of the French box office, told the French television that his impresario had been in- formed by the Egyptian Embassy that he would be- welcomed in Egypt because peace with Israel was about to come. The Embassy would not comment on the informa- tion. Macias' impresario said the singer would refuse the invitation. Macias, born in Algeria, came to France with thousands of North Af- rican Jewish emigrants after Algerian independence in 1962. • .1 6.00.11410.111* Rabbi Bergman also pleaded guilty to state charges of paying unlawful fees to Albert Blumenthal, State Assembly majority leader.
