Begin's Action for Peace Seeks
Direct Negotiations, Justice for
Arabs and Solidarity for Israel

Menachem Begin, leader
of the Likud opposition
party in the Israel Knesset,
addressing the annual din-
ner meeting of Albert Ein-
stein Lodge of Bnai Brith, at
Adat Shalom Synagogue
Saturday night, presented a
program of action for peace
in the Middle East and ex-
posed the dangers that face
that area and mankind from
Soviet Union and Arab ter-
rorist-extremist obstruc-
tions.
The meeting, an annual
event in behalf of Israel
Bonds, netted $525,000
Bond purchases.

presided, summed up the

Bnai Brith lodge by express-
ing confidence in Jewry's
dedication to Israel's secu-
rity, with emphasis on the
"Israel will live theme."
Sam Friedman, presi-
dent of the Einstein Lodge,
and Mrs. Joseph Klein,
president of the Einstein
Chapter, its women's affi-
liate, were audience greet-
ers who similarly afformed
dedication to the cause of
Israel's security.
David Hermelin con-
ducted the Bond enrollment
portion of the meeting and
presented awards to • mem-
bers of the Israel Prime
Minister's Club and Trus-
tees, purchasers of $25,000
and $10,000 Bonds respec-
tively.
Begin called attention to
the numerous threats from
Arab extremists aimed at
Israel's destruction. He
quoted the aspiration of one
Arab leader to force Israel
to her knees, and he de-
clared that Israel bends the
knee only to God.
With an emphatic decla-
ration, "We want peace, we
reject war and bloodshed,"
and deploring the heavy
losses Israel sustained in
the Yom Kippur War, Begin
declared that Israel will
never again be caught un-
prepared. He presented a
five-point program –for
peace, commencing with an
assertion that there must be
"direct negotiations," that
such procedures, practiced
in conflicts by all,nations,
must also be granted as a
basic right to Israel.
His other points in-
cluded a strong plank
guaranteeing just rights to
Arabs who choose to be
citizens of Israel, with full
equality enjoyed by all.
For those who do not de-
sire to accept Israeli citi-
zenship he proposed all
just rights, without re-
striction, except the privi-
lege of voting for members
of parliament, the Knes-
set.
His program called for
recognition of Israel's right
to Eretz Israel, the Land of
Israel, as the state was
known in ancient times.
"We have come home," he
- said, "to our land," and he
said the term Palestine was
an invention, a name im-
posed on the land as an an-
tagonism to the Jews to
whom the Holy Land is sa-
cred and a legacy never
abandoned.
Begin warned of the dan-
gers that stem from Rus-
sian influence and the effort
by the USSR to dominate
and control the entire Mid-
dle East. He charged that
Arafat is the agent of the
Russian secret police and he
declared that Soviet domi-
nation will prove a menace
to the entire world.
Touching upon the pro-
posal by Arafat for the crea-
tion of a UN authority on
the West Bank and in Gaza,
Begin said it would prove
disastrous for Israel to
abandon Judea and Samaria
because it would imme-

diately open Israel to the
danger of destruction from
Russian-supplied long-
range weapons.
Begin likened the ene-
mies who threaten Israel's
existence to the aims of the
Nazis, to the Ashmidai of
Hitlerism, and he declared
that Israel will reject any
proposal to submit to sui-
cide by accepting impossi-
ble terms from enemies.
"This is a crucial year,"
Begin declared. "All of us
must wage a permanent
campaign to assure Israel's
economic position. What is
needed is investment in Is-
rael's economy. With the
strength we can jointly
provide for Israel we can
overcome and prevent all
dangers."
The response of the gath-
ered 200 dinner participants
was a demonstration of
faith and another re-affir-
mation of "Never Again" to
any form of threat to Jewish
existence. Most of the Ein-
stein Lodge members are
survivors from the Nazi ter-
ror and their solidarity for
Israel annually expresses
itself in efforts for Israel
Bonds as well as related
tasks in support of the Jew-
ish state.

Begin avoided discussing
internal political Israeli af-
fairs and devoted his ad-
dress to analyses of the ex-
isting situations and his
appeal for American Je-
wry's support for Israel.
He stated, however, prior
to his address, that there is
internal tension involving
the ruling party and he de-
clared that the overwhelm-
ing majority of Israelis fa-
vor a national unity
government to include all
parties. Demands for a na-
tional unity government
have been made prior to the
formation of the Rabin Cab-
inet in Israel and consist-
ently by leaders of the Zion-
ist Organization of Amer-
ica.
