Primarily, the event, held at Chabad House, 715 Hill St., was the dedication of the Robert and Pearl Ruch Dining Room in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Ruch, who have been in the forefront of the supporters of the move- ment. Emma Schaver, another of the major affiliated lead- ers of Chabad, presented to Mr. and Mrs. Ruch an Is- raeli Megilla. Mr. and Mrs. Ruch also were presented with a gift by associates in the metal industry. The event was utilized for the presentation of Purim entertainment that was marked by reveletory traditional Purim parody with special emphasis on student experience and a lesson on a youth's trans- formation from a drug ad- 611NTRY CLUB is pleased to announce that THE COLEMAN BROTHERS ARE TOGETHER AGAIN Jim Coleman Nat Coleman and Membership Director Health Club Director "Just For The Health Of It" Renew Old Acquaintances TOWN & COUNTRY CLUB 30333 Southlleld Road • Southfield, Michigan 646-9010 diet into an observant Chabadnik. Also in evidence at the event was the participation of student representatives as an indication of the growth of the Chabad pro- grams on the campus. With some 50 students already taking part in Chabad classes, the Lubavitch tasks have gained status. Under the tutelage of Rabbi Yakov Goldstein and Yitschak Lipszyc, students have joined in classes in To- rah, Talmud and related subjects. Rabbi Goldstein also has a credit-bearing U. of M. class in Hasidut. The principal address at Sunday's function which was attended by some 60 guests from Detroit, Flint and nearby communities, was delivered by Mel Wax- man of Cleveland, an active leader in Federation and his community's Chabad move- ment. He substituted for Irving I. Stone, president of American Greeting Card Corp. and chairman of Chabad of Cleveland, -who was unable to come due to the illness of his wife. Waxman spoke of the urgency of involving youth in Jewish identifications and providing spiritual substitutes to prevent al- ienation. The joint state- ment read by Waxman representing his and Stone's views, gave an account of Chabad achievements, of the suc- cesses in reaching out to youth and the dire necess- ity of strengthening the movement that has made inroads in youth circles and is succeeding in over- coming the deviations, drug addictions and indif- ference to Jewish needs and obligations. David Her-melin presided at the function and appealed for added funds to furnish the Chabad House and to provide the necessary corn- forts to attract the Jewish students. Irwin I. Cohn, in an ad- dress greeting the event, paid his respects to the Cha- bad religious leaders and commended them for their dedications to Chabad which he described as one of the-most effective move- ments reviving Jewish spir- itual growth in Michigan Better is the rebuke of a wise man than the song (praise) of fools.
