THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Cardiologist Saul Rosenzweig, Leader in Medical Community Dr. Saul Rosenzweig, a leading Michigan cardiolo- gist, died Feb. 27 at age 75. DR. ROSENZWEIG Photo taken in 1961 Born in Detroit, Dr. Ro- senzweig was graduated in 1924 from the University of Michigan and received his medical degree cum laude from that institution. While at U-M he received academic honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honorary. He was the director of the old North End Clinic and its successor, the Shiffman Clinic at Sinai Hospital. He was on the staffs of what is now Detroit General Hospi- tal, Florence Crittendon Hospital, Children's Hospi- tal and Sinai Hospital. At Sinai, Dr. Rosenzweig was chief of cardiology and served two terms as chief of staff. A clinical associate pro- fessor of internal medicine at Wayne State Univer- sity's medical school, Dr. Rosenzweig was a member The Family of the Late ALBERT GREENBLATT Jeannette Lourie, Hadassah Leader JERUSALEM — Jean- nette Lourie, former execu- tive director of Hadassah in New York and wife of Is- rael's deputy director of the Foreign Ministry, died Feb. 11 at age 70. Mrs. Lourie earned de- grees from Hunter College and New York University, and was in charge of person- nel and labor relations for a New York factory before joining Hadassah. She was executive direc- tor for 17 years, but stopped working for Had- assah while her husband was consul-general in New York and ambassa- dor in Ottawa and Lon- don. After returning to Israel, she became a Hadassah vol- unteer and served as honor- ary secretary of the Hadas- sah Council in Israel and chairman of public rela- tions. of the American Medical Association, the Michigan State and Wayne County Medical Societies, the American Heart Associa- tion, the American Dia- betes Association and was a founding member of the Detroit Heart Club. Dr. Rosenzweig also was elected to fellowship in the American College of Physi- cians and the American College of Cardiology. He leaves his wife, Ruth; two sons, Dr. David of Wa- watosa, Wis., and Dr. Jona- than oi Ann Arbor; two daughters, Mrs. Sol (Donda) Rossman and Mrs. Herman (Jane) Abelson of San Fran- cisco, Calif.; a brother, Dr. Arno Ross of Paradise, Calif.; and eight grandchil- dren. Dr. Samuel Eder Dr. Samuel J. Eder, a physician for more than 50 years, died March 2 at age 84. Born in New York, Dr. Eder was graduated from what is now Wayne State University's school of medi- cine. He was a member of Cong. Shaarey Zedek and a past president of the syn- agogue's burial society. He was a board member of the Jewish Home for Aged, past master of Perfection Lodge of the Masons. He leaves his wife, Leah; a son, Dr. Gerald J. of Albu- querque, N.M.; a daughter, Mrs. Zachary (Barbara) Pitts of Palm Springs, Calif.; a brother, Ben of Los Angeles; and two grandchil- dren. Jack Scharg, 50 Jack Scharg, sales man- ager for the past two years at Bennett Brothers, Inc., wholesale appliance and jewelry outlet, died Feb. 26 at age 50. A native Detroiter, Mr. Scharg was for 17 years the manager of Piedmont Jew- elry and Appliance Co. in Detroit. He was a member of Temple Israel and Bnai Brith. Mr. Scharg resided at 29465 Ashley Ct., South- field.
