VINCENZO'S
Danny Raskin's
LISTENING
POST
IRENE BATCHKO
SCHLUSSEL, wife of Ber-
nard Schlussel, who folks
know best as being in the
Maurice Shop dress busi-
ness for 40 years, has em-
barked on a new career
since marrying Bernard in
July, 1973 . . . Irene is seen
as a commercial model in
magazines, on television, in
slide films and brochures
. . She'll be one of the
.olks seen in the Bicenten-
nial movie filmed at Green-
field Village to be shown for
a two-year run starting
April 1 in Philadelphia . . .
At present, during March,
Irene is in five national
magazines endorsing a face
cream cleanser . . . She is
also co-chairperson of the
Israel Bond dinner, March
20, by 111arshall-Suburban
Bnai Brith Lodge and Chap-
ter, at Adat Shalom Syn-
agogue.
SINCE HIS DAD often
brings home work from the
office, little Sheldon, six-
year-old son of Ann and
Mark Rubin, asked why his
father spent so much time
in the study . . . Ann ex-
plained that he had to bring
work home because he
didn't have time to finish it
at the office . . . For first-
grader Sheldon there
seemed an obvious solution
to the problem . . . "Gee,
mom," he suggested, "why
don't they put daddy in a
slow group the way they do
at school when you don't get
your work done?"
FROM LOS ANGELES,
Herman "Turk" Prujansky
writes to set the record clear
that recent affair there at
Cong. Bnai David was not a
benefit for him . . . "It was
four of the biggest clubs in
Los Angeles honoring. me."
. . . Turk writes that he had
a standing ovation from over
1,200 people for more than
five minutes.
ANOTHER WHIRL-
WIND romance is told to us
by Shirley Nachman in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla. . . Her
daughter Linda came to
visit Shirley last December
even though a single girl
staying with her mother
didn't sound like much fun
. . . Shirley arranged for
Linda to play tennis with
her neighbor's son . . . It
was such a good match that
Linda and Barry Goodman
will be married June 20, at
Adat Shalom.
SUE THOMASON
'went along with the deal"
. . . and is one of the few
not new things at the Jax
Kar Wash on Greenfield
and 10 Mile . . . Sue is the
favorite of everyone . . .
and it juRt wouldn't have
looked right if she had left
. . . Much of the place has
been remodeled . . . and
new equipment installed
. . . Shortly after being
opened, one of the Jax at-
tendants was let go . . . for
failing to clean out ash-
trays.
BEST BET of the week-
end . . . Knights of Pythias
Detroit. Lodge No. 55 Instal-
lation Dinner-Dance . . .
this Sunday . . . at Shera-
ton-Southfield Hotel . . .
Black Tie optional . . . Joe

TEMPLE ISRAEL Sis-
terhood "Art and All" Fair
that starts March 21
through 23, has a chair-
person who looks like the
ideal best-dressed career gal
. . . Carrying her briefcase
weighted under with files,
Lois Singer (Milford), still
looks like she just stepped
out of the pages of Vogue
. . . Marilyn Belin, presi-
dent of the sisterhood, and
Lois' chairpersons are work-
ing hard toward one of the
season's most exciting
events.
SEEING BUMPER
Stickers . . "Support
Bingo. Keep Grandma Off
The Streets."
LETTER FROM a nine-
year-old in Flint, studying
foreign countries, was re-
ceived by Beth Frumkin at
the local offices of Israel
Aliyah Center . . . "I really
would like to know more
about your country. If you
could send me a few pic-
tures or a map, that would
be fine. I am a Baptist and I
know that Christ was born
in Israel. I hear Israel is
having a battle. I really hope
you win." . . . Benny Chap-
man.
LADY CAME INTO
Hammerstein Drugs in Oak
Park and asked for a box of
canine pills . . . It was fin-
ally decided that what she
really wanted were quinine
pills . . . and that her hus-
band was a gentleman . .
not a dog.
THANKS ... to Barbara
Eskin, wife of barrister
Mort, for the soft, colorful,
furry football-shaped pillow
with "Scott" on it . . . Ex-
pectant Barbara and Lois
Levenson are former school-
teachers and next-door
neighbors whose Pillow
Patch novelty business is
worked from their homes--
with highly successful re-
sults.
NATE TRIVAX remem-
bers when a friend stayed at
a Detroit hotel and asked
the clerk if there was an.En-
cyclopaedia Brittanica in
the hotel . . . The clerk,
with polite attention and
regret, replied, "There isn't -
any, sir, but what is it you
wish to know?"
DURING DINNER at
home last week, six-year-old
Gerald Brody, son of Oscar
and Miriam Brody, was
asked by his mother what
he learned in school that
day . . . and the little lad
replied, "I learned a kid bet-
tern' to call me a baby!"
LETTERING
PAINTED on the side of an
old somewhat battered car
. . . apparently owned by -
the local youngster driving
it . . . reads, "True love
never runs smoothly."
