International Red Cross Expected to Welcome Magen David Adorn
Assurances were given
this week that Israel's appli-
cation for membership in
the International Red Cross
will be formally presented
at the forthcoming meeting
of the world organization.
Admission of the Israel
equivalent of the Red Cross,
Magen David Adorn, had
been delayed and the failure
to welcome the Israelis
raised many protests, espe-
cially since the Arab coun-
terpart, the Red Crescent al-
ready is a member of the
International Red Cross.
The question of Israel's
admission to the world Red
Cross was raised by the pi-
oneer Detroit Zionist, My-
ron Steinberg, with Duane
E. Johnson, executive direc-
tor of the Southeastern
Chapter of the American
Red Cross.
Steinberg outlined the
Magen David protest over

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Premier Yitzhak Rabin de-
clared here that U.S.-Israel
friendship would weather
transient disagreements
because both nations shared
basic common values that
bound them together.
Rabin made his remarks
to an audience of prominent
Israelis and American rep-
resentatives attending a
luncheon of the Israel-
America Friendship So-
ciety. The event was chaired
by Jewish Agency Trea-
surer Leon Dulzin who is
president of the society.
Rabin said his latest
visit to the U.S. last month
affirmed the shared values
that helped mold Ameri-
ca's attitude toward Is-
rael. He spoke of their
common dedication to De-
mocracy, their common
biblical heritage and the
fact that both America and
, Israel were immigrant so-
cieties.
He said that, travelling
across the United States he
felt that "regardless of what
was written in the press,"
there was deep sympathy
and understanding and
readiness on the part of the
American people to work to-
gether with Israel.
