The eighth annual Jew- ish-Catholic Day of Under- standing, sponsored jointly by the men's club of Adat Shalom Synagogue and the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix Center, will take place 9:30 a.m. March 6 at Adat Shalom. The program involves about 50 Catholics and Jews each year in what has be- come an all-day Sabbath encounter. Featured on the program are two intensive study ses- sions led by Rabbi Seymour Rosenbloom, associate rabbi of Adat Shalom Synagogue, and Rev. Justin Kelly, S.J., professor of religious stud- ies at the University of De- troit. Rev. Kelly will intro- duce the first session with a presentation entitled "The Ethics of Sexuality." The second session will be opened by Rabbi Rosen- bloom with a talk entitled "Is Zionism Racism?" The day will begin with a continental breakfast and orientation for all partici- pants at the synagogue. Temple Beth Jacob to Install Rabbi Ballon in Formal Rite Rabbi Jeffrey Ballon will be formally installed as reli- gious leader of Temple Beth Jacob 8:30 p.m. today in the temple. Rabbi Meyer Abramow- itz, spiritual leader of Brith Sholom of Springfield, Ill., will deliver the installation address. Rabbi Abramowitz is the father-in-law of Rabbi Ballon. Joining Rabbi Ballon and Rabbi Abramowitz on this special occasion will be Rabbi Dannel Schwartz of Temple Beth El. Rabbi Ballon came to Temple Beth Jacob in July, 1975 after serving a Reform congregation in Tyler, Texas for five years. He is a 1970 gradu- ate of Hebrew Union Col- lege. Rabbi Ballon is a chaplain in the Army Reserves. He also is treasurer of the Brown University Alumni Association, a teacher at the College of Jewish Studies and a member of the West Bloomfield Ministerial As- sociation.
