AJCongress Says Bias Halts '60 Minutes' Hearing

(Continued from Page 1)
"The American Jewish
Congress made it clear
that we were ready to
share all information with
CBS at all times for exam-
ination and questioning
and, in short, to allow
them full access and full
rights of participation —
provided that they agreed
to become a party on the
same terms as ourselves,"
Baum said.

"When CBS repudiated
the jurisdiction of the Coun-
cil and announced its re-
to participate in any
we then assumed it
would be uniformly agreed
that the American Jewish
Congress as complainant
had no further obligation

Broomfield
Amendment

(Continued from Page 1)
measure. The bill is ex-
pected to be considered by
the House next week.
The House committee's
vote was taken as the Senate
was considering a bill which
contains a similar provision
for the transitional quarter
which runs July 1-Sept. 30
to take into account the
changeover this year from
the start of the fiscal year to
Oct. 1 instead of July 1.
The House committee
had previously voted to
provide Israel with $2.255
billion in military and eco-
nomic air. Wednesday's
vote means Israel will get
an additional $563 million,
including $250 million in
military assistance. The
original allocation for
Egypt was $740 million in
economic aid;Jordan $77.5
million in economic assist-
ance and $75 million in
military credits; and Syria
$90 million in economic
assistance.
The House committee
also adopted an amendment
by Rep. Lester L. Wolff (D-
NY) that would cut off mili-
tary aid for any country
that aids or harbors terror-
ists. A similar amendment
was adopted by the Senate
by a voice vote Tuesday.
Sen. James Abourezk (D-
SD) opposed the measure,
saying that the Israel Air
Force should be included
among the terrorist groups.
Abourezk has offered an
amendment that would bar
military aid to Israel if it at-
tacks southern Lebanon.

The AJCongress spokes-
man declared that this
"disparity of concern" was
most flagrantly demon-
strated by the refusal of the
Council to allow testimony
in executive session from
one witness "the probative
value of whose statement
was intimately bound up
with his relationship to one
of the principals of the Mike
Wallace program."
The AJCongress state-
ment said the group origi-
nally decided against apply-
ing to the Federal

ComMunications Commis-
sion for action in the case
because of the existence of
the National News Council.

with respect to CBS in con-
nection with these proceed-
ings.
"To our amazement this
position was actively res-
isted by various members of
the Council. At one point
there was discussion of the
possibility of finding some
device which would allow
CBS to examine others and
not be examined itself and
to participate to its advan-
tage in a hearing whose au-
thority and findings it had
rejected in advance."

DALLAS (JTA) — Mrs.
Adlene Harrison became
the first Jewish woman
mayor of a metropolitan
city recently when her fel-
low members of the city
council elected her as Mayor
Pro-Tern after Mayor Wes
Wise resigned to run for a
Congressional seat.
Mrs. Harrison is both the
first Jew and the first
woman to serve as Mayor of
Dallas, the eighth largest
city in the nation.
Mrs. Harrison, who has
been on the council for sev-
eral years, has indicated
that she will not run for the
mayoralty when an election
is held in April, but instead
will remain on the city
council.
There are some 25,000
Jews in metropolitan Dallas
out of a total population of
more than one million.
