NEW YORK (JTA ) —
Bernard B. Jacobson, execu-
tive vice president of the Na-
tional Committee for Labor
Israel told the 600 delegates
_ attending the annual mid-
inter conference at the
ialdorf-Astoria Sunday
that the group had raised
$1.5 million toward the 1976
goal of $5 million.
Pointing to the serious
economic situation in Israel
that forced curtailment of
many welfare and educa-
tional programs, Jacobson
stressed that Histadrut
"was bent on preserving the
quality of life" in Israel by
aiding the low-income fami-
lies, primarily the new im-
migrants.

In addition to his post as
president, Dr. Gottschalk
currently is an honorary
president of the Southern
California Jewish Historical
Society and vice president of
the World Union for Pro-
gressive Judaism, and the

bis.
He is also a member of
the executive board of the
American Jewish Commit-
tee and baord of trustees of
the Union of American He-
brew Congregations, the
Central Conference of
American Rabbis, and the
World Institute for Se-
phardic Studies among
other organizations.
Dr. Gottschalk is a mem-
ber of numerous academic
and professional societies
and has had his studies, es-
says, and articles published
in a wide variety of schol-
arly journals and religious
publications.

Chicago, will be in Flint
Thursday on behalf of the
Flint United Jewish Appeal

American college students
between the ages of 18-25
left Sunday for Israel for a
semester of intensive Judaic
studies at the Hayim Green-
berg College of the Depart-
ment of Education and Cul-
ture of the World Zionist
Organization. They will be
joining 30 colleagues who
left for Israel last Septem-
ber.
Constance Barger of
Southfield is among the
students from throughout
the country participating in
the Israel study program.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday a
group of 40 high school jun-
iors and seniors from
throughout the United
States left for Israel for
six-week cultural and edu-
cational exchange.
They will visit schools in
different localities and live
with Israeli families.
