Aaron Lopez was the
foremost merchant in New-
port and perhaps of all the
English colonies. He owned
30 trans-Atlantic ships and
more than 100 coastal ves-
sels. In sympathy with the
Revolution, Lopez fled New-
port when the British took
the city and lost all of his
property rather than com-
prise his ideals.

Ministry of Defense issued
the following statistics in
reviewing the economic and
social progress of the ad-
ministered territories from
June, 1967 to June, 1975:
• Real Growth: An aver-
age Gross National Product
increase of 18 percent an-
nually as compared with
eight percent for Jordan as
a whole before 1967 and
negligible growth in the
Gaza Strip.
• Unemployment rate:
Nine percent in 1968 to
zero.
• Number of employed:
135,000 in 1968 to 210,000 in
1974.
• Employed in Israel: a
daily average of 5,000 in
1968 to 79,000 in September,
1974.
• Educational institu-
tions: 21 percent increase;
46 percent rise in class-
rooms; 46 percent in teach-
ers; 44 percent in pupils.
• Health services: Births
in West Bank hospitals in
1968: 25,925; in 1974 —
30,668. Cases of measles
declined from 901 to 95.
Number of doctors on West
Bank from 48 to 113, nurses
from 237 to 432. Number of
doctors in Gaza Strip from

that are used in German.
Her list includes the fol-
lowing phrases: to have
"mazel" or "tsores," to give
"aitses," to do "beshtem" (to
spite), to make "gezeres," to
tell "lotselach" and
"shmontses," to have
"machloikes," to make
"mevulvel," to be "me-
shugge," to cash in a
"revach," to merit "koved,"
and a true "dalles" does not
come from God.
She also listed the follow-
ing nasty names: shnorer,
