Prisoner Seeking
Kosher Meat Diet

NEW YORK (JTA) — The
National Jewish Commis-

fairs (COLPA) has filed a
notice of appeal on behalf of
Rabbi Louis Wolfish, now
serving a three-year federal
prison term in a fraud case,
on grounds that a court or-

Wolfish was convicted in
federal court in New York
last October on charges he

insurance company of

death.
In a related case involving
Rabbi Meir Kahane, the
founder, of the Jewish De-

ing a one-year term for par-
ole violation at a minimum
security prison in Allen-
wood, Pa., -Federal Judge
Jack B. Weinstein ordered
that Kahane receive kosher
meat in the Allenwood facil-
lty.
On a government appeal,
the second circuit court of
appeals modified Judge
Weinstein's order, declaring
only that Kahane must be
given a nutritional kosher
diet sufficient to sustain
him in good health.
