chicken, whole and breaded
and fried with sesame
seeds, water chestnuts and
bamboo shoots; stuffed soy
bean cake with oyster sauce
and fortune cookies that
double-talked . . .
Forbidden City on Or-
chard Lake is a simple but
beautiful place seating 210
on two levels . . . The decor
is pleasant and not overdone
. . . This is the Chinese year
of the dragon . . . and
Henry Yee is in style . . .
One of his walls has the
mural of a huge dragon to
go with the time . . . Pay
Forbidden City Northwest a
visit . . . You'll enjoy a true
culinary experience if
Henry has anything to do
with it.
MARTY KOPITZ is
owner of the new Perfect
Blend spot in the Fidelity.
Bank Bldg. on 10 Mile and
Northwestern . . . open at
11 serving full lunches, din-
ner 'til 9 and sandwiches 'til
midnight . . . Marty's dis-
cotheque a la New York
style starts at 7 p.m. every
night except Sunday.
SID HUDSON'S FA-
VORITE place for holding
court every morning when
in Detroit is at Max's Deli
on Southfield and 13 Mile
Rd. . . . and it has gotten to
be known as the place to go
if you want to see Sid while
he's in town.
FAST-RISING, young
vocal star, Bob Anderson, is
at the Golden Coach on Van
Dyke, north of 12 Mile . . .
Bob is a native Detroiter
who has had a meteoric ca-
reer climb since his early
days singing around town
. . . A hit in Las Vegas, Bob
was also a recent "Bachelor
of the Month" in Cosmopoli-
tan Magazine.
THE NEW MEDIUM at
The Interlude on 12 Mile
between Mound and Ryan,
goes into another week
turning out interpretations
of the best of the top 40
numbers Tuesday through
Saturday.
ABOUT THE DRAGON
Lady Chinese restaurant in
Satellite Beach, Fla. where
we went with Sammy
Woolf, Bunny Nickamin
and Bunny and Al's sweet
young daughter Leah, it
was quite an experience . . .
sort of like eating a com-
plete meal of vegetables . . .
Place also has a Japanese
room but doesn't serve Japa-
nese food . . . You take off
your shoes, sit on pillows
and eat Chinese fare . . .
Owner at least has a sense
of humor if not good food
. . . Couple of signs say,
"Drink Hot Sake. Find Out
For Yourself Why Japan
(?'

BRING THE PAGE WITH YOUR NAME ON IT
AND PROPER IDENTIFICATION TO:
Lost World War II" .. . and
"All Of Our Dishes Are
Made Of Ingredients" . . .
By the way, Leah was cause
of a new way to make hot
sauce for bar-b-q ribs . . .
Mother Bunny put catsup,
Chinese mustard sauce and
plum sauce together for a
tangy treat.
THOSE WHO BRAVED
the elements the night of
our city's worst snow storm
this year, to attend the pre-
opening of the Greater De-
troit Spaghetti Co., were
well rewarded by an atmos-
phere of rich nostalgic eleg-
ance . . . and the unbelieva-
ble metamorphosis from
what was once Northwood
Inn on Woodward and 111/2
Mile . . .
The place had been com-
pletely gutted and almost
everything was built from
scratch . . . on first and sec-
ond levels . . . When we
drove up, the old Northwood
Inn was extremely unrecog-
nizable from the outside
. . . Inside, it was even
more shockingly different
Seating 450 people, the
Greater Detroit Spaghetti
Co. restaurant is filled with
old time character in a yes-
teryears motif . . . An old
Texaco gas pump greets
people . . . old style types of
chandeliers, tapestries and
plants hang above tables
and booths with different
coverings . . . Young man
Steve Bail, only 21, was our
waiter, and the fourth table
he had ever waited on . . .
His politeness and eager-to-
please enthusiasm was re-
freshingly pleasant . . .
We had the spaghetti
combination of sauce and
meat balls and know its
blandness will not be for
long . . . Ben Kasle and Ted
Richman are restaurateurs
with proven note and their
know-how is enough assur-
ance that an improvement
won't be long coming . . .
No doubt about it, The
Greater Detroit Spaghetti
Co. restaurant is a most
unusual showpiece . . . but
more than this, it has a lot
of character.
