McNichols Rd. UN 2-6455, s POST SID HUDSON, the gent who left Detroit 30 years ago as Sid Hodash to live in Las Vegas, has, in that time, become a living legend . . . Helping other people is a habit with him . . . and "Mr. Las Vegas"is a rightful title for Sid . . •. When he first came to Vegas, it had only a few hotels and "Bugsy" Siegel had opened the first extravaganza one, the Flamingo, where Sid has lived all these years . . . He's the kind of guy every- body loves because of his naturalness . . . the best type of human being there is . . . saying what he thinks . . . and loving every minute of life . . . When- ever Sid comes to Detroit, he oozes with enthusiasm that effervesces everyone in his company . . . H's the kind of guy you want to know . . . and enjoy knowing. Because of his natural hu- manity and wonderful out- look on life, Sid doesn't throw names around . . . He has met and is inti- mately friendly with most of the great names in show business . . . He could re- gale an audience with sto- ries about these people that would take a year to tell . . . When Sid does some- thing for somebody, few people know about it, but his heart pumps with happi- ness . . . The living legend called Sid Hudson is a great one . . . and Detroit can well be proud to call him one of its favorite ex-native sons. Detroiters will this Feb- ruary hear one of the world's finest violinists Syl- via Marovici, a Romanian Jew who because of Sid's in- itial efforts, was able to emigrate to Israel with her husband Dr. Alda Turai . . . Original story about their plight appeared in the Los Angeles Times . . . Sid read it and set the wheels in motion for their emigra- tion from Romania to Israel . . . He got in touch with Hank Greespun, owner of the Las Vegas Sun, who wrote to Senator Henry "Scoop" Jackson . . . he eventually arranged for their permission to live in Israel. They gave Sid a slim one out of three chances to live a few years ago . . . but he battled back from a serious illness and looks wonderful . . . It was as if Sid were saying, "Me leave? Hell no! I've got too much work to do yet!" NAME CHANGE FOR Detroit Businessnen's Group, City of Hope, is back in the works . . . and may appear this year . . . Also, the possibility is being re- searched to bring women into the group . . . May 8 at Town and Country Club has been selected as the date for installajon-dinner dance . . . for new administration **********,*** -ii * * headed by Max Sosin, presi- dent. BARRY MARC FELD- MAN, son of Betty and Maynard Feldman, was in the first graduating class of Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing . . . and made chancellor of its moot court (mock trials) . . . He and Mark Redding of Ann Arbor wrote the moot court proposals. IT'S LEGAL FOR Nor- man Allan to give out those dollar bills with his picture covering that of George Washington . . . No defac- ing of the paper currency . . . and if Norman gives you one, you'll never be broke . . . Just peel his pic- ture off and spend the sin- gle. ON THE DAY WE were leaving Cocoa Beach, Fla., it was so cold that a gent came up and asked if we wanted to sell our coat. (Probably should have, but the doctor bill would have been more than the price of another coat.) DATE OF THE annual Master's Ball by Mosaic Lodge 530, is Jan. 31, at Kingsley Inn on Woodward and Long Lake Rd. . . . Worshipful master this year is Henry Lederman . . . Chairman of the ball is Percy Swartz, 354-4085. WHERE THEY ARE .. . The Cohen sisters, Carole, Jeanne and Rena . . . Car- ole and Jerry Katz have lived in California for the past 29 years and recently celebrated their 30th anni- versary . . . He and broth- er-in-law Jack Herman, also a former Detroiter, operate an antique clock shop in North Hollywood . . . Jeanne and hubby Bill Pe- ters own and operate two restaurants, Crown House in Laguna Niguel, and Ivy House in Laguna Beach, Calif. . . . Rena and Morris Eisenberg have been living in Tucson, Arizona a little more than three years. THE FATHER OF ONE of jeweler Doug Schubot's friends passed away and he phoned the house to see if the family was sitting "shiva" at the mother's or the son's house . . . Doug asked the person who an- swered the phone, "Can you please tell me where they are sitting" . . . and the voice replied, "In the living room."
