Pushing Changes
Mark T. Jacobson, new
president of the Apartment
Association of Michigan,
says the group is undertak-
ing an information program
that concerns the problems
of renters and rental prop-
erty owners.
Jacobson explained, "We
have been concerned about
some of the recent legisla-
tion passed by municipal
governments and by state
and Federal governments
covering rental properties.
In some cases consumerism
seems to be producing poor
results. Renters and prop-
erty owners, alike, have
been unnecessarily bur-
dened by the provisions of
these new laws."
Jacobson pointed to un-
necessarily costly construc-
tion requirements and an-
nual inspection fees that are
applied to all apartments re-
gardless of condition.
He added that a look at all
laws regarding rental prop-
erties is necessary now be-
cause of the growing de-
mand for apartments and
other multiple-dwelling
housing.
