Buzzie Bavasi, then the Brooklyn Dodger gen- eral manager, according to Litsky, told Koufax, "You've got one pitch — high." A Dodger team- mate complained, "Taking batting practice against him is like playing Russian roulette with five bullets." I like the story Norm Sherry, a co-religionist of Koufax, who was quoted by Litsky as telling about the time Koufax loaded the bases with none out. Sherry (Copyright 1976, JTA, Inc.) Litsky, who culled his material from hundreds of sources, reveals that Sid Luckman, the quarterback of the great Chicago Bears 11, the dominant team in the 1940's, was quoted by Illinois' coach Bob Zuppke as, "the smartest player I ever saw, college or pro." --A teammate, Bob Snyder, re- vealed, "Sid can sit down and draw you every blocking assignment of the other 10 Bears from each of the vast number of plays we used.
