THE VEAL TRIES-
TINA at Carmen's Fior d'
Italia on Franklin at 12 Mile
and Northwestern, is su-
perb . . . It's elegantly pre-
pared by maitre d'-manager
Wayne Youngblood, with
medallions of tender veal
(unbreaded), fresh arti-
chokes and lemon butter
sauce . . . Fior d' Italia's
new menu will have this on
it plus the very delicious
veal picante, one of our fa-
vorite dishes in Italian din-
ing.
THE MORE A PERSON
goes out of town the more
he or she appreciates the
restaurants here in our lo-
cale . . . At least that's how
it is with us . . . Very few
places can compete with
Detroit and suburbs when it
comes to every type of sit-
down food imaginable.
PAT NOLAN, owner of
Pat's Pickle Patch on South-
field near 10 Mile (used to be
Joanne's Pickle Barrel), is a
personable young man
who's been around the res-
taurant game seven years
. . . an owner of several
operations around town . . .
Good to have someone with
food background heading
the eatery again. (Before
Joanne, it was the Purple
Pickle.)
AL WINKLER has
joined association with Sy
Ginsberg in the new Pickle
Barrel Deli on W. 12 Mile
Rd. at Evergreen . . . Al
started out as a 10-year-old
in the business . . . here
only a few months then
from Israel where he was
born . . . Was at Cousin's
Deli on Linwood and Hazel-
wood . . . They asked if he
could cook . . . Al said no,
but before the day was over
he knew how . . . Since
then he has been around the
deli field for 17 years . . . A
personable young man, Al
as a boss will make many
more friends to add to his
large popularity.
SPECIALS CONTINUE
ON weekly basis at the Bon-
fire Bar-B-Q on W. 8 Mile,
west of Evergreen . . . This
week, Monday through
Thursday, it's broiled white
fish or fried shrimp, $2.99.
JOEL NASH AT
JAKK'S piano bar only
Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday, is strictly a very
temporary measure.
CONGRATS TO . . .
Ben Kasle and Ted Richman
on opening of their Spa-
ghetti Company eatery at
Woodward and 11 1/2 Mile
(former Northwood Inn
site.)
1975 WINNERS FOR

.

sandwich concoctions go to
Sammy Sandler at Sam-
my's Corned Beef 'n Rye on
'Nine Mile in Ferndale . . .
and Sutton Deli on Lahser,
north of Nine (its four-
decker is really a whopper).
SOME RANDOM
WISHES FOR 1976 . . .
THAT restaurants who say
chopped sirloin on their
menus serve it instead of
chopped hamburger meat
(how about a law?) . . .
THAT many countermen
around town wear clean
aprons . . . THAT some
waitresses stop saying
"Honey" and "Dear" . .
waiters say "Sir", why can't
the gals? . . . THAT many
waitresses stop standing'
around for your order right
after handing you your
menu . . . THAT some
members of the delicates-
sen-restaurant association
stop acting like babies and
get the group properly off
the ground . .
THAT the State of -Michi-
gan starts enforcing its
laws on the statute books
regarding the use of
"kosher" and "kosher-style"
.. . THAT people who
write us with beefs about
restaurants stop being
chicken and sign their
names . . . THAT a law is
passed allowing all restau-
rants that wish, to serve
beer and wine . . . THAT
the Golden Coach on Van
Dyke continues putting o,n
fine shows but improves its
food . . . THAT Milt Tyner
gets back into the bar-b-q
business like the good old
days on Livernois . . .
THAT as many people as
possible see and hear Bob
Snyder at the Cymbal Inn
on Groesbeck and Eight
Mile . . . a fantastic saxa-
phonist entertainer — one
of America's best . . . on
Tuesday nites, Dave Wil-
born, vocalist with the origi-
nal McKinney's Cotton
Pickeis, still sings a fine
tune out there . . . Dave is
really somebody to tell your
,children or grandchildren
about . . .
THAT customers wait
until busboys or waitresses
have a chance to clear the
booth or table before sitting
down . . . THAT customers
remember restaurant own-
ers want very much to
please . . . if anything is
wrong, let them know in-
stead of carrying a grudge
and not coming back . . .
THAT people try John Etch-
ert's bouillabaisse at the
Atrium . . . THAT some
waitresses stop asking if
