Myitic Defends Powers

Uri Geller, the "Israeli
mystic" defends his powers
in a recent article in the De -

writes:
"Reader's Digest pointed
out that my critics, most of
them magicians, insist that
I am merely a magician who
is able to fool many leading
scientists .. .
"But the article pointed
out that these critics hive
constantly refused to un-

Lubavitch Give
Hanuka Kits

NEN YORK (JTA) --
Members of the Lubavitcher
movement distributed an
estimated 850,000 Hanuka
kits, each containing an in-
expensive menora manufac-
tured for the project, to-
Jews on four continents for
the holiday-this year.

The international effort
was undertaken as part of
the ongoing effort by Rabbi
Menachem Schneerson,- the
Lubavitcher Rebbe, to com-
bat assimilation among
Jews, according to Rabbi
Shmuel Butman, director of
the Lubavitch Youth Organ-
ization.
Each kit also included a
box of candles and a pam-
phlet describing Hanuka, its
laws and the blessings, with
translations and transliter-
ations.

Jews in Exile Cherished Land

Throughout the banish-
ments decreed by alien con-
querors against many of it
inhabitants, the Jews in ex-
ile cherished the land in
their hearts, and - over and
over again made their way
back to it, singly and in or-
ganized groups.
It is in Hebrew that pray-
ers have been iminemorially
recited on Sabbaths and fes-
tivals, and in a thrice-daily
evocation of Jerusalem, in
the thousands of syn-
agogues where millions of
Jews worship throughout
the world.
And, at long last, the Na-

ism, in affinity to Jerusa-

brought the enlightened
world to recognition of the
rebirth of Jewish sover-

Arabs in Palestine

The first appearance of
the Arabs in Palestine was
in the seventh Century of
the, Common Era, 33 centu-
ries after the first appear-
ance of the Israelites, and
Arab dominion then en-
dured for hardly more than
three. or four centuries. No
other Arab hegemony of Pa-
lestine ever followed that
brief intrusion. If Palestine
fell into alien hands there-
after, it was in a succession
of short-lived, non-Arab,
. conquests — by the Seljuks,
the Crusaders, the Mongols
and the Mamluks, and, from
1517 until the Allies de-
stroyed the Ottoman empire
in the First World War, by
the Turks.
