The theme of the confer-
ence was "Proclaim Lib-
erty", from the Leviticus
verse inscribed on the Lib-
erty Bell — "Proclaim lib-
erty throughout the land
unto all the inhabitants
thereof."
Highlights of the confer-
ence included the presenta-
tion of the first annual UJA
David Ben-Gurion award to
author Elie Wiesel, and the
Louis A. Pincus Memorial
Lecture by Prof. M6she
Davis, head of the Institute
of Contemporary Jewry at
the Hebrew University, ti-
tled "Meditations on the
Bicentennial."
Guest speakers included
Israel Defense Minister
Shimon Peres, Sima Dinitz,
Israel ambassador to tie
U.S.; Chairm Herzog, Israel
ambassador to the UN;
Leon Dulzin, acting chair
man and treasurer of, the
Jewish Agency; and Moshe
Rivlth, director-general of
the Jewish Agency.

During the conference,
Dulzin called for "unity
and solidarity" of the Jew-
ish people as a response to
the recent resolution
adopted by the United
Nations stating that
"Zionism is a form of rac-
ism."

He observed that the in-
tentions of the Arabs and
their Communist backers at
the UN, who introduced the
anti-Zionist resolution, are
to undermine Israel's exist-
ence and can be viewed "as a
call for genocide."
