SOME PEOPLE in the
next booth couldn't have
said it any better when` they
exclaimed, "This place is
sure a surprise!" . . . It was
at Francesco's on Michigan
between Southfield and Tel-
egraph in Dearborn, where
we sat in one of the high
plush booths and were
waited on by gentleman'.
John Carmona (remember
him from Darbys?) in gray .
tuxedo jacket . . . Amid the
friendly, intimate atmos-
phere of Francesco's, we
dined witi superb service
and excellent cuisine . . .
and the elegant warmth
that oozes here is conducive
to fine dining-in a fascinat-
ing interior combination of
stucco, wood and brick . . .
Being entertained by Famil-
iar Faces; with super songs-
tress Pam Martin, was also
a joyful experience . . .
(Dave Adams, bass guitar,
Terry Wayne, electric piano,
organ and grand piano, and
Dale Bender, drums) . . .

manager-chef at Frances-
co's, and rightly proud the

be . . . First we had the sea-
food hors- d'oeuvres . . . fol-
lowed by the Francesco
tossed salad . . .. and then
four different types of veal
(Romano, Carmoria, Picante
and Francesco) . .. side of
Fettucini, Alfredo and Mos-
taccioli Francesco : . : and
bottle of Italian Soane wine
. Then John brought us a .
bowl of fresh fruit . . . and
for dessert, Zablaglion, egg
yolks with marsala. wine
whipped up with sugar . . .
FOR ABOUT 30
YEARS, Artie Nelson -has
played benefits for others at
the drop of a hat' . . Now
stricken with a serious ill-
ness, more than 100 musi-
cians, 50 in gypsy concert,
singers galore-, etc-., will do a
benefit for Artie . .
ets are $15 including dinner
and dancing . . . for Dec,

House, 21801 Harper, St.

ANOTHER NEW IN-
DIAN eatery makes the
scene . . . with opening of
new Royal Bengal restau-
rant on W. Nine Mile, 1/2
block west of Woodward in
Ferndale . . . The Indian,
Pakistani and Bengalese
food is served seven days a
week from 11:30 to 2:30 and
5 to midnight, Monday
through Saturday . . . On
Sundays, the hours are 3 to
7 or so.
YESTERDAYS
OPENED with very little
' fanfare at the Sheraton-
Southfield . ... and has
been crowded from the day
it unlocked its doors . . .
Good reason, it's a winner,
with ultra-fantastic decor, a
lot of class and the dancing
listening thythms of Mel
Ball and Colours.
A NUMBER OF YEARS
ago in Baltimore, we had a
completely wonderful bouil-
labaisse, made by a world
famous chef . . . then were
turned completely off with a -
couple • of sorry imitations
here in Detroit . .. Re-
cently, manager Lorenz Pe-
tersen, invited us for some
bouillabaisse at the Atrium
on Telegraph . . . and now
we've really been spoiled
. . . it was even better than
the one we had in Baltimore
. . . in fact, the entire meal
prepared by executive chef
John Etchart was excellent.
He started us off on a
pheasant pate with chunks
of pheasant meat .. . and
waiter BobTaylor, of whom
there are very feW better,
brought us a bottle of Bern-
kastel Rieslin 1973 white
wine to compliment the fine
meal . . . The elegant
aroma of John's bouilla-
baisse was enchanting .- . .
Being here from France
less than five years, John is
an expert at making bouilla-
baisse . . . We had three
helpings and wondered how •
it could be any better . . .
For dessert, Crepes Roths-
child stuffed with peaches,
pears and pineapple were
flamed in Grand Marnier by
Bob at our table . . . If you
