10 December 19, - 1975 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Delta Schedules Additional Flights Israel Seeks Million Tourists - NEW YORK (JTA) — One million tourists to Is- rael is the goal that the Min- istry of Tourism has set for 1976. Tourism Minister Moshe Kol said that this year, in which Israel expects to reg- ister 650,000 visitors, tour- isrri was up from all other parts of the world but was down from the U.S. There were only 200,000 visitors from the U.S. in 1975, Kol said. He noted that the peak year for American tourism was 1972 when 280,000 visited Israel. That year was also a record year for overall tourism with 726,000 visitors, a mark Kol hopes to break next year. Delta Air Lines' early winter schedules feature a host of new flights to Flor- ida, the Southeast, Mid South and Texas. However, Kol, who has visited 10 American cities On behalf of the Israel Bonds and to meet with travel agents, said that since the "shameful" anti-Israel resolutions were adopted by the UN there has been a tre- mendous response by Amer- ican Jews in buying Israel Bonds and in deciding to visit Israel. In addition, and in order to facilitate its cruise-bound vacationers, Delta now of- fers a special "cruise check- in counter" at Detroit Metro Airport. To Florida, Delta has now scheduled new L-1011 Tri- Cadets Hear Talk on the Holocaust NEW YORK — Siggi B. Wilzig had responded to an invitation from United States Military Academy officers seeking to broaden and personalize the curricu- lum at West Point. Wilzig, a German Jew who was imprisoned at Auschwitz in 1942 at the age of 16 and liberated three years later from Mauthau- sen, another German exter- mination camp, spoke on _"The Impact of World War II on European Jews." Wilzig spoke of the en- ormity of human destruc- tion under the Nazi. He spoke of luck and guilt in his escape from the fate of his parents and 27 relatives in Nazi death camps. He recalled a German father whose anti-Nazi activities were reported to the police by a frightened son. "He walked into the woods with his son, shot him and then shot him- self," Wilzig said. Describing survival in a death camp, Wilzig said, "I was 16, but I said I was 18 when the train arrived, and then discovered they were exterminating everyone un- der 18 and over 48. It was a good decision, thee kind you hid to make in knowing when to volunteer' and when not to." PLO Reportedly Seen in Jordan JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israelis were pondering the significance of unconfirmed reports that armed Pales- tine Liberation Organiza- tion terrorists were seen at a Jordanian army ceremony in Amman recently. If correct, it would be the first time the PLO has sur- faced in Jordan since King Hussein drove the terrorists out of his country in the bloody campaign of Septem- ber, 1970. The reports, broadcast by Israel Radio, quoted "West • Bank" sources as saying that Hussein attended the ceremony at which the PLO men were present. ain in 1966, her United Na- tions voting record has con- sistently been friendly towards Israel, and the tiny nation voted with the U.S. and Igrael on the Nov. 10, "Zionism - Racism" resolu- tion.
