What is believed to be the
first Bar Mitzva of a Jewish
prison inmate in Michigan
was held Monday and will
be repeated Saturday at
Southern Michigan Prison.
in Jackkgr.
Twenty-five year old in-
mate Howard Tyner was
called to the Torah and con-
ducted the entire- service,
which was attended by
members of his family.
According to Rabbi Ste-
ven Chester of Temple Beth
Israel in Jackson, who
serves as Jewish chaplain,
Tyner learned Hebrew
while in the prison facility.
The rabbi said the service
was held within the trusty
division of the prison, and
will be repeated Saturday
