RABBI S.ZACHARIASH Specialized MOHEL In Home or Hospital 557-9666 UN General Assembly reso- lution equating Zionism with racism last week at the Michigan-Israel Dinner of State on behalf of State of Israel Bonds at Adat Shalom Synagogue. At the dinner honoring Milliken, David Pollack, chairman of the Detroit Is- rael Bond Committee, an- nounced that National Bank of Detroit purchased $250,000 worth of Bonds and Manufacturers Na- tional Bank made a $300,000 purchase. Gov. Milliken said in part: "The establishment of the state of Israel was to the modern age what the founding of this nation was to an earlier century — a miracle wrought of di- vine guidance and human struggle. A great victory for the oppressed. A bold affirmation, before all the world, of the inherent dignity and worth of the individual. "We all know that ever since David Ben-Gurion proclaimed Israeli state- hood on May 14, 1948, in a ceremony in the Tel Aviv Museum, the continued sur- vival of the new nation has required heroic bravery and sacrifice on the part of its people, and the vigorous support of its friends. "Now, in addition to the continuing dangers of a vol- atile military situation in the Middle East, the state of Israel faces a new threat. And it is time once more for friends of Israel to vocally and emphatically reaffirm their support. "Less than two weeks ago, as you all know, the United Nations General Assembly voted 72 to 35, with 32 ab- stentions, to adopt a resolu- tion condemning Zionism as a "form of racism and racial discrimination." - "It is true that this reso- lution has no binding ef- fect upon any nation, and it is true that its sponsors argued that anti-Zionism was not anti-Semitism. "This vote is not to be lightly dismissed, however, as simply a propaganda vic- tory for its sponsors. "There is the very real danger that this deplorable resolution might be the first step in a new effort to chal- lenge what Israel's UN Ambassador Chaim Herzog describes as "a unique and unbroken connection, ex- tending some 4,000 years, between the People of the Book and the Land of the Bible."
