The air attack near Tri- poli in northern Lebanon was aimed against head- quarters of George Ha- bash's Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and other terrorist organiza- tions located there, Israel said. While acknowledging that a schoolhouse was des- troyed at Nabatiyeh, Israel claimed the building was no longer used as such but served as Al Saiqa head- quarters. Israel's communiques were apparently in response to Lebanese claims that the air attacks killed up to 100 civilians in Palestinian refu- gee camps and wounded a similar number. Israel ins- isted that the action was not ordered in retaliation for the recent murder of three Israeli students by terrorist infiltrators at the Golan Heights settlement of Ra- mat Magshimim or to mol- lify public opinion at home in view of the recent series of diplomatic victories by the Palestinians at the United Nations.
