On the FBI, CIA and Se-
cret Service, Anderson
said these agencies were
created "to protect our
freedoms, but they vio-
lated our freedoms" by
opening up the mail of
private citizens and keep-
ing dossiers on celebrities
and famous- individuals
whom the FBI deemed a
threat to the government.
When the government
violates the law we're in
trouble," Anderson said,
Telegrams of congratula-
tions were sent to Rabbi
Norman Kahn, administra-
tor of the Beth Yehuda
schools, from President
Gerald R. Ford and Michi-
gan Governor William G.
Milliken.
Special tribute was paid
at the dinner to Mrs. Jose-
phine Wolf, wife of the late
Abner A. Wolf, who dedi-
cated a nursery and kinder-
garten to the Beth Yehudah
Schools in honor of her hus-

"watchdog" at the 61st an-
nual dinner of the Beth Ye-
hudah Schools Sunday at
Cobo Hall.
Speaking to' more than
1,200 persons at the dinner,
at which communal leader
Nathan• P. Rossen was pre-
sented with the schools'
Golden Torah Award, An-
derson said, "There is a rea-
son for the First Amend-
ment — freedom of the
press. All other freedoms
are expressed and defended
through it.
"If you lose the freedom
of the press, they you have
lost your freedom.
Anderson said he tries to
get "the facts as they are.
I can't always get the facts
as they are because the
government's ability to
cover up is greater than
my ability to uncover
them."
Anderson said that since
the U.S. is a democracy the
