Saudis Fly U.S.
Jets to Syria

WASHINGTON — Saudi
,Arabia flew a squadron • of
.F5 jets, bought from the
United States, into Syria
recently as a part of a mili-
tary exercise.
The jets remained in
Saudi hands and there
was no violation of the
1951 agreement restricting
American_ military equip-
ment to defensive purposes,
according to the State De-
partment. ,
Meanwhile, Russia has
agreed to send a squadron of
supersonic MIG25 war-
planes to Syria where they
apparently will be manned
by Russian pilots.
Intelligence analysts said
the squadron would be a
token Russian presence
demonstrating Moscow's
backing for Syria against Is-

This is a carry-over
from the biblical descrip-
tion in the Book of Exodus
which required that a
"parokhet" (curtain) be
hung to separate the Holy
of Holies from the rest of
the Holy section in the
ancient temple.
The idea was that the con-
cept of holiness calls for sep-
aration and withdrawal as a
high form of man's disci-
pline. Whatever is holy
stands off in a distance to be
admired and appreciated.
