SHORT STORY .. .
about a woman in the com-
munity everybody loves
. . . with a heart maybe too
big, for her two sons to fill
.. Really a grand person
. . . Whenever they
brought friends home, she
treated them with
overwhelming kindness
. . . Two of her "foster
sons" happened to meet in a
distant city, remembered
it was her birthday . . : and
sent her a telegram
greeting . .. On receiving
the wire, she was the hap-
piest woman in town . . .
"Just like my own boys,"
she said. "It even
came collect."
ONE OF THE GALS

Salon at the Charter House

with Sammy Dibert and

wife Fran have the Mark
Fischer Antique Gallery on
Northwestern between Mid-
dlebelt and 14 Mile Rd. . . .
They didn't go into business
collecting old drums . . .
but rocking chairs for their
house about 15 years ago
. . . People would come over
and have to sit on one of the
rockers . . .
Mark and Frank now only
keep about four or five of
them in their over 2,000
items . . . Plus antique sell-
ing, renovating and picture
framing, the two nice folks
point to their appraisal set

thing to do," says Mark . . .

SCOTT'S KORNER
. . . "All year I played foot-
ball on the Oak Park fresh-
man team and nothing hap-
pened playing tackle and
guard against those bruis-
ers .. . Just fooling around
with Tom Fine, I put my
hand up and hit his foot.
Now I've go a broken hand.
And some people told me
not to play football - because
I would get hurt! Get well
wishes to Heidi Dworin at
Providence Hospital."

IN THE NOVEMBER
issue of Detroiter Magazine,
published by the Greater
Detroit Chamber of Com-
merce, Bill Carrol, public re-
lations committee chairman
at Cong. Shaarey Zedek and
on the Ford Motor Car Co. p.
r. staff, writes about Max
Sosin . . .
"Max Sosin doesn't push a
candy or gift cart through
hospital corridors. He
doesn't go door-to-door col-
lecting money in a cannis-
ter; nor does he sell peanuts,
poppies or newspapers for
charity. Yet he does a lot of
volunteer work — and its all
the same kind. In a sense, he
may be one of the most im-
portant volunteer 'workers
in Detroit. Sosin makes peo-
ple laugh. Being funny is his
hobby. He's been telling
jokes and singing humorous
songs in the Detroit area for
35 years. And he's never
paid a cent for it.
During the, day, the 64-
year-old Sosin is a manu-
facturer's representative for
drugs .and sundries. At
night he becomes "Detroit's
Toastmaster General —_
Jewish entertainer and hu-
morist." . . . The article
takes up three pages and is
a well imformed one, inter-
spersed whth a few of Max's
well chosen jokes . . . Bill is
a free-lance writer in his
spare time and the son-in-
law of Morris Samuels of
Samuels Brothers in the
Eastern Market.
LOOKING BACK On
Columns of Yesteryears
. . . "It was a big event out
there in the China-Burma
sector when Sam Morgen-
.roth, who recently was dis-
charged, won 25,000 . . .
after -being "talked into" a
game of tumbling cubes . . .
The news spread like wild
fire from camp to camp . . .
There was only one catch
. . . After figuring it out, all
it meant to Sam was $12.50
in American itoney.
WARNING. TO . . . a

pharmacy in Oak . Park . . .
It's a very dangerous no-no
to give someone the wrong
prescription!
