THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Sidney H. Cohen Lee Silberblatt Lee Silberblatt, secretary of the Detroit Chapter of Hadassah for 25 years, died Nov. 17 at age 78. Born in Manchester, N.H., Mrs. Silberblatt lived most of her life in Detroit prior to retiring to Jackson- ville, Fla., where she lived at the time of her death. She was a past president of Cong. Shaarey Zedek's sis- terhood and a founder of the Zedakah Club. In the 1930s she was chairman of the national convention of con- servative sisterhoods at which time she entertained Eleanor Roosevelt. Mrs. Silberblatt leaves two sons, Jerry Siebert of Fairfield, Conn., and Dr. Donald Siebert of Pismo Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Alton (Marjorie) Dreayer of Orlando, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. Sidney H. Cohen, a scrap metals dealer and former caterer, died Nov. 17 at age 56. Born in Winnipeg, Mani- toba, Canada, Mr. Cohen lived 37 years in Detroit. He was in the wholesale food industry for 25 years and for the past 10 years was a scrap metals dealer with Winston Brothers Scrap Metal Co. Mr. Cohen was graduated from the Detroit Institute of Technology and served in the U. S. Army. He was a member of Cong. Beth Achim and was a member and board member of the Parents Association for Jewish Residential Care, now the Association for Jewish Retarded. He re- sided at 13637 W. Lincoln, Oak Park. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; a son, Leonard; and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Etta) Wilson. Richard B. Cole Richard B. Cole, a certi- fied public accountant, died Nov. 18 at age 53. Born in Detroit, Mr. Cole was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1948 and earned his mas- ter's degree in 1949 from that institution. He received his CPA certification in 1953 and formed his own public accounting firm the same year. In 1968 he merged with Laventhol and Horwath, an international accounting firm, and was a partner and manager of the Detroit office. Mr. Cole was a former member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Committee on Environmental Accounting. He was on former Mayor Roman Gribbs' advisory committee on fiscal and other municipal problems. He had lectured at U-M, the University of Detroit, Wayne State University and New York University. He was a past president of the Children's Orthogenic School and was a member of Temple Beth El and the Franklin Hills Country Club, He leaves his wife, Irene; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Kathy) Panter and Patri- cia; and his mother, Mrs. Louis (Claire) Cole.. Sandor Shapiro Sandor (Sam) Shapiro, an automotive parts plant manager for the past 15 years, died Nov. 18 at age 49. Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Shapiro lived 47 years in De- troit. He was affiliated with Square D. Co. for 32 years. He was president of the Metropolitan Detroit Auto- motive Center and was a member of the Charles Shapiro Post of the Jewish War Veterans and Ivan S. Bloch Lodge of Bnai Brith. He resided at 24811 Tem- plar, Southfield. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Harry, Charles and Jack; a daugh- ter, JoAnn; a brother, Jo- seph Sheldon; and three grandchildren. Gertrude Landau Gertrude Landau, a founding member of Cong. Beth Shalom, died Nov. 19 at age 70. Born in Poland, Mrs. Lan- dau lived 45 years in De- troit. She was a life member of Hadassah and lived in Southfield. She leaves a son, Abram Joseph (Landau); a daugh- ter, Mrs. Harry (Esther) Shapiro; a brother, Isadore Kolin; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Kersh; and seven grandchildren.
