U.S. Deportee's
War Trial Set

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Mrs. Hermine Braunsteiner
Ryan, who was deported
from the U.S. in 1973 for
falsifying her Nazi activities
during World War II, will go
on trial Wednesday for war
crimes in Dusseldorf.
The former Queens
housewife and 13 other de-
fendants will be tried on
charges of participating in
the murders of 250,000 Jews
in Nazi concentratiom
camps, the West Geman
Prosecutor's office said.
Mrs. Ryan was a concen-
tration camp guard during
the war. She married an
American and acquired U.S.
citizenship in 1963.
Her failure to report a
war crimes conviction by an
Austrian court resulted in
action by the U.S. Immigra-
tion and Naturalization
service which led to the re-
vocation of her citizenship
and deportation to West
Germany.
