Mrs. Joseph Maltzer of
Huntington- Woods, first

ber of the executive commit-
tee of the National Federa-
tion of Temple Sisterhoods,
recently returned from that
organization's 30th biennial
assembly. Mrs. Maltzer was
re-elected to the vice presi-
dency for another two-year
term. She is a Inember of

Hospital," began 10 years
ago by the two organiza-
tions so that patients who
would be away from their
homes during the holidays
would be able to keep in
touch with their loved ones
and friends.
Holiday greetings are
sent throughout the U.S.
Canada and overseas. This
same service is provided for
Christmas, Easter and Pas-
sover.
Sherman Goldman has
been in charge of this
project since its inception..
He is a "ham" ractiO oper-
ator and also is council
chairman of community
and volunteer services,
Metropolitan Detroit Bnai
Brith Council.
The U.S. Air Force Mili-
tary Affiliate Radio Service
assists in the program.

chief executive officer of the
Detroit Bank and Trust Co.,
was awarded International
Bnai Brith's Humanitarian
Award Tuesday evening at a
fund raising dinner in Cobo
Hall that was attended by
nearly 1,000 persons.
Bnai Brith international
vice president Martin Glu-
chow presented the award
to Stockmeyer, citing him
for his "distinguished and
enduring contributions of a
humanitarian nature."
The annual dinner was a
benefit for the youth serv-
ices of Bnai Brith, includ-
ing Hillel foundations on
college campuses, the na-
tional Bnai Brith Youth
Organizations and career
and counseling services.
Participants in the pro-
gram included Cantor Jacob
Barkin of Cong. Shaarey Ze-
dek, who sang the Star
Spangled Banner and a
musical interlude during
the dinner, Dr. Richard C.
Hertz of Temple Beth El,
dinner co-chairmen Irwin I.
Cohn, Joseph L. Hudson Jr.
and Alan E. Schwartz, Very

The Ottoman Turks, in
their four centuries of gov-
ernance, harshly restricted
the entry of Jews into Pales-
tine. There is no other rea-
son why Jews were a minor-
ity of the population when
the Balfour Declaration was
made on Nov. 2, 1917.

Mr. and Mrs. David Sil-
ver, sponsors of the Akiva
Hebrew Day School Bible
Contest, will present
awards to the winning con-
testants in the school audi-
torium 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 in
conjunction with Akiva's
- Hanuka celebration.
The theme for the contest,
initiated by Mr. and Mrs.
Silver, in honor of their
golden wedding anniver-
sary, is "Kind David."
Silver is a past president
of the Jewish National Fund
and Cong. Beth Achim, and
with Mrs. Silver has been
active in many Jewish or-
ganizations. He is a member
of Akiva's board of direc-
tors.
The Hanuka program will
feature candle lighting, the
Akiva School Choir and
songs and short plays from
various grades. The winning
contestants' entries will be
read and prizes awarded.
There will be no charge, and
refreshments will be served.
