The most extraordinary
trait of the Jews was that
they actually strove to make
the vision of their prophets

their lives.

of Israel's readiness to pro-
tect herself.
"For that purpose," he
declared, "American Je-
wry's support is vital."
Almogi said the unity of
Israel and the Jewish people
remains the basic factor in
defense of the Jewish state.
The physicians' section
of the Israel Bond Organi-,
zation, sponsor of Satur-
day night's dinner, ap-
proached the $600,000
mark in Bond sales.
Dr. Hamburger, a leader
in the profession and in
Zionist ranks, was pres-
ented with the Eleanor
Roosevelt Humanities
Award in recognition of his
many communal services.
In the tribute to the hono-
ree, Philip Slomovitz said
the honor for Dr. Hamburer
is shared by his wife, Hilda,
who has similarly labored
ardently for the Zionist
cause, and by their parents
and children.
The Hamburgers' son
Daniel recited the Hamotzi
before the meal; his brother
Paul spoke briefly in behalf
of the four Hamburger sons.
In an expression of family
solidarity in support of
Zionism, the elder of the
brothers, Sheldon, a Univer-
sity of Michigan student,
announced a $1,000 Bond
purchase — $250 for each of
the brothers — including
Aaron, the youngest who is
two-years-old.
The program included

participation by Dr. Lloyd
J. Paul, chairman of the din-
ner committee, and Dr.
Terry Podolsky, who intro-
duced Almogi.
Alinogi was here in the
course of a tour of several
American cities in behalf
of the Israel Bond pro-
gram. He did not disucss
his candidacy for the
chairmanship of the Jew-
ish Agency and the World
Zionist Organization, but
in reply to a question re-
garding his future plans
he spoke with an assur-
ance that he would be
elected to that post in Jan-
uary by the Jewish Agency
for Israel, at a meeting
scheduled to be held in
Jersualem.
Almogi told The Jewish
News that he felt selection
of a representative of the
Labor Zionist Movement
(Histadrut) representative
for the major post in world
Jewry as justified because
the party "is in the major-
ity." He was also firm in as-
serting that his 21 years
experience in the Knesset
and the Israel government
give him the qualifications
for the position.
He added emphatically: "I
have the integrity and the
ability" in justification of
his being preferred for the
chairmanship of the two
world positions in prefer-
ence to the opposition candi-
date, Leon Dulzin, the pre-
sent acting chairman of the
Jewish Agency.
