Four members of the Na-
than Mendelson family
were stranded in Bucharest,
Romania, when the visas
they had been promised by
the Ministry of the Interior
were postponed indefinitely.
According to the Mendel-
sons, their relatives were
not told about the delay in
getting their visas until
after they had resigned
their Romanian citizen-
ships, given up their jobs
and sold all their belong-
ings.

Working with the Ro-
manian ambassador in
Washington, Blanchard
was able.to bring the fami-
ly's plight to the attention
of Romanian officials and
expedite the family's de-
parture.

Less than one month
later, Romanian authorities
issued the visas and the
family was on its way to the
United States.
