The 85th birthday and
second "retirement" of Dr.
Harry C. Saltzstein will be
acclaimed Monday evening
at the 23rd annual meeting
of Sinai Hospital of Detroit.
Dr. Saltzstein, who first
retired 11 years ago as a
surgeon, has been editor of
the Sinai Bulletin since
that time. He was first chief
of staff and first chief of
surgery at Sinai, and a
leader in the effort to found
the hospital.
Born in Washington,
DR. SALTZSTEIN
D.C., and raised in Milwau-
kee, Dr. Saltzstein served as war he came to Detroit and
an Army doctor during joined the staff of the North
World War I. Following the End Clinic. He led many
serious efforts in the 1930s
to raise funds for a full hos-
pital.

"Without Harry's stubborn
determination, there might
not be a Sinai Hospital in
Detroit today."
Dr. Saltzstein was guest
of honor at Sinai's annual
staff dinner-dance earlier
this month, and was hon-
ored at a birthday dinner at
Temple Beth El last week.

National JNF Seeks Expanded Program

NEW YORK (JTA) — Inc
biennial meeting of the Jew-
ish National Fund of Amer-
ica heard a call for an ex-
panded JNF program in the
fields of scholarships, cul-
tural and educational activ-
ties in America.
In his biennial report,
Abram Salomon, JNF exec-
utive vice president,
stressed that, "the alloca-
tions by the welfare funds
and federations for cultural
and educational purposes,
are totally inadequate to
meet the accelerating needs
of the Jewish day schools in
the present economic situa-
tion."
He proposed the forma-
