NEW YORK — Four of .1
the 11 people who were
awarded Nobel Prizes this
year are Jews.
- - --
Dr. David Baltimore and
Dr. Howard Martin Temin
were named in medicine,
Dr. Ben R. Mottelson, in
physics and Dr. Leonid
Kantorovitch in economic
science.

STOCKHOME (ZINS) —
Dec. 10 will mark the 75th
anniversary of the estab-
lishment of the Nobel Prize.
Since its inception in 1901,
451 individuals (exclusive of
the 1975 winners) have re-
ceived the Nobel Prize.
In terms of percentages
the greatest number of win-
ners by far has been Jews.
(45 Jews have been Nobel
Prize winners, 10 percent of
the total.)
It is also interesting to
note that very few women
have been recipients of this
great honor. In 75 years
only 14 winners have been
women, of whom 4 had to
share their prizes with men.
The only Israeli to have
received the Nobel Prize was
the author, `Shai' Agnon. He
shared the prize with the
poetess Nelli Sachs, both of
whom are now deceased.

Rockefeller Extols
Rabin and Sadat

NEW YORK — Vice Pres-
ident Nelson A. Rockefeller
praised both Prime Minister
Yitzhak Rabin and Presi-
dent Anwar Al Sadat for
having -signed the latest
Sinai agreement taking
"calculated risks to avert
war and the wisdom to opt
for peace."
Speaking Oct. 30 from the
pulpit of New York's Tem-
ple Emanu-El where he had
just been awarded an honor-
ary degree of a Doctor of
Humane Letters from He-
brew Union College — Jew-
ish Institute of Religion,
Rockefeller told the assem-
bled 2,500 rabbis, scholars
and laymen of Reform Ju-
daism, "It took courage for
both Israel and Egypt to
take these steps."

Rabin, Dayan Rift
Seen Intensifying

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The
final rupture between Pre-
mier Yitzhak Rabin and for-
mer Defense Minister
Moshe Dayan took place at a
recent extrordinary session
of the Knesset when Dayan
voted with the opposition
against the proposed pact
with Egypt,
Rabin declined an inter-
view with a correspondent
of Ma'ariv for the Rosh Has-
hana issue of his paper sim-
ply because the same issue
would also carry an inter-
view with Dayan.
