Noted Dancer

Fred Berk, a specialist in
Jewish and Israeli dance,
will return to the Jewish
Community Center as guest
artist-in-residence Nov.
22-26. He will conduct a spe-
cial seminar, "Jewish Dance
Heritage," for group lead-
ers, teachers and interested
dancers, on how to motivate
interest in dance, how to
teach dances and form a
performing company, how
to choreograph and create
simple costumes for a per-
forming group.
During his five-day resi-
dency, Berk will show his
collection of films on Israeli
dance, many of which were
filmed in Israel in authentic
costume. He will also con-
duct a number of open
classes in Israeli and Jewish
dance.
Berk is the founder and
director of the Jewish Dance
Division of the 92nd Street
YM-YWHA in New York.
He is dance consultant of
the American Zionist Youth
Foundation, directs its an-
nual Israeli Folk Dance Fes-
tival at Carnegie Hall, and
conducts the annual Israeli
Folk Dance Tour to Israel.
He has published two out-
standing books on dance,
"Ha Rikud" and "The Chas-
sidic Dance."

Opening night events in-
clude an Israeli cabaret so-
cial with refreshments and
music by Gingi Ben Zeev.
Informal dance instruction
will be provided. The public
is invited at a nominal
charge.
