Dayan said he was not
concerned with improved
relations between the U.S.
and Egypt as long as that
was not at Israel's ex-
pense. He said Israel
wanted to purchase Persh-
ing long-range missiles
from the U.S. in order to
have a second strike capa-
bility, meaning the ability
to hit back at Cairo or
Damascus should the Ar-
abs attck Israeli civilian
centers with their Soviet-
made "Scud" missiles.
Dayan said Israel had no
intention of arming the
Pershings with nuclear
warheads.

and the Russian involve-
ment. He covered the many
issues in his address to the
contributors and earlier, at
the Sommerset Inn, at a
press conference.
At the meeting of cam-
paigners, he conducted the
session as a dialogue,
commencing with brief re-
marks and then replying to
numerous questions in
which he covered the vital
current issues.
Dayan treated the occurr-
ences at the UN on Monday
unemotionally. He exhibited
confidence in his assertion
that Israel will fight the war
for life and existence on the
farms, where the people are
producing creatively, and
when necessary on the bat-
tlefield.
The gathered guests were
welcomed by the host, Dan-
iel Honigman, who ex-
pressed pride in the high
record for philanthropy by
the Detroit Jewish commu-
nity.
The manifold campaign
objectives were outlined by
the co-chairman, Dr. Leon
Fill and Merle Harris, and
there were supplementary
comments on communal
obligations by Fisher, Zuck-
erman, Samuel Frankel and
others. The obligations to
unequivical support of Zion-
ism were briefly defined by
Dr. Joel Hamburger.
Dayan commented on a
variety of subjects. He said
the Palestinian problem
should be solved by resettle-
ment of the Palestinians in
the Arab countries and Is-
rael would pay compensa-
tion to them for any land
and property left behind. He
contrasted this with the
800,000 Jews from Arab
countries who resettled in
Israel with no compensation
whatsoever for the property
they left behind.

Hans F.D. Stolz has in-
formed The Jewish News
that Austria, Belgium, the
Netherlands and Malta pre-
pared a special postal can-
cellation in honor of his
father's 95th birthday this
year.
Robert Stolz, the famous
Austrian composer who was
honored as a friend of Is-
rael, died this summer. The
special mark, used to cancel
stamps, showed the com-
poser at work at the piano,
as well as a medallion with
a side-view of the compos-
er's face.
Following the composer's
death, a memorial cancella-
tion was also prepared.

Dayan, who is accompa-
nied on his lecture tour by
Ms. Dayan, said in his ad-
dresses at 60 universities in
this country he had learned
that many facts of history
are little known. He equated
this lack of knowledge to the
failure by the present gen-
eration to understand the
Zionist ideal
Dayan came here from
Chicago where he addresed
a similar meeting and
where the record was set in
the raising of $6,250,000
from 93 donors.
