question now beginning to
be explored is what Ameri-
cans of diverse religions and
ethnic backgrounds mean
when they speak about "the
Holy Land."

To explore such a ques-

project in America-Holy
Land studies was started
four years ago jointly by
the society and the Insti-

together with the National
Archives, recently spon-

in Washington to spiur a
major research effort into
what the society called a
long-neglected field of
study.
