The film is a comedy- drama of the most impor- tant years in the childhood of a six-year-old boy named David Herman during the 1920s in Montreal. His Russian descended Jewish family, living in Canada, suffers the typical generational conflicts evi- dent in most families. The boy's father, a modern, ma- terialistic man, dreams of becoming rich by designing "the inventions the world is waiting for," and his grand- father is a humble, idealis- tic man who makes his liv- ing by buying and selling rags, old clothes and bottles, and who waits for the peace and love which will come to the world when the Messiah arrives. Young David finds him- self torn between his father who wants him to succeed, and his grand- father who wants him to love. Starring in the film are: Israeli actor Yossi Yadin, brother of the famed Israel archeologist, Yigael Yadin: Len Birman, Marilyn Light- stone, and introducing Jef- frey Lynas as David. si's "Symphony for Orches- tra:" "Meditation of a Drama," by Tzvee Avni, "Baal Shem Suite" by Er- nest Bloch, with Lidia Mordkovich as violin soloist, and the "Gustave Mahler 4th Symphony," featuring Cilla Grossmeyer, soprano. The program will be un- der the baton of Lukas Foss. For ticket information, call Shaarey Zedek, 357-5544. JG 18 — W.
