4 -41 E. J. Steinberger, Longtime Physician Dr. Eugene J. Steinber- ger, a physician for more than 50 years, died Oct. 24 at age 84. Born in Hungary, Dr. Steinberger lived 51 years in Detroit. He wp.s graduated from the Royal Hungarian Medical School in 1914 and interned at the City Hospi- tal of Budapest from 1919 to 1923. He served his resi- dency at Montefiore Hospi- tal in New York in 1923. He has been practicing in De- troit since 1924. He was a member of the ethics committee of the Wayne County Medical So- ciety for many years. He was former chief of staff of Delray Hospital and also was on the staffs of Oak- wood Hospital, Sinai Hospi- tal and Southwest General Hospital. He was a past president of the West Side Medical Society (1945-46) and has pursued post-grad- uate studies at Harvard University and the Univer- sity of Michigan. He leaves his wife Maria; a daughter, Mrs. Oliver (Marie) Lustig; four grand- children and four grea,t- grandchildren.
