Zip WASHINGTON (JTA) — The red carpet will be rolled out for Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's 10-day state visit to the United States which begins next Wednes- day. U.S. officials have dis- closed that beside the usual formalities here for a visit- ing head of state, Sadat also will make appearances in New York, Houston, Chi- cago and Jacksonville, ad- dress the United Nations General Assembly, the Con- gress and the National Press Club. Sources said Sadat is ex- pected to make a request to Administration officials for $5-7 billion in weapons aid over a period of at least a decade. That total far ex- ceeds the $2.2 billion that Is- rael arms aid, now in nego- tiation, will cost over the next three years. Toronto Holds Aliya Parley TORONTO (JTA) — In an effort to create community support of aliya and in or- der to increase Jewish im- migration to Israel, an all- Canada aliya conference was held here Sunday at the Airport Hilton Hotel. The objectives of the all-day ses- sion were to stimulate inter- est and activity of aliya on all levels in the Jewish com- munity, and to dramatize the need for and support of aliya as a priority of Cana- dian Jews. Prof. Yehuda Bauer, head of the Institute of Contem- porary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was the keynote speaker, addressing the delegates on the importance of aliya for the future survival of the Jewish state. The work of the Aliya Council would supplement and assist the regional Is- rael Aliya Center emissaries in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Similar regional aliya councils have already been established in Detroit, Miami, Philadelphia and Cleveland, and future con- ferences will be conducted in San Francisco, Washing- ton, D.C., St. Louis, Seattle and Los Angeles. US officials believe Sadat plans a 10-year program which will free Egypt from its current de- pendence on Soviet mili- tary aid, and said no sales would be made to Egypt for at least one year. Sinai accord, the pledge of a "positive response" to Israel's request for Persh- ings. At the same time, the Pentagon confirmed that it has increased its orders for Lance missiles by slightly more than $6 million to sell them to Israel. That sum is understood to be the cost of about 100 Lance missiles. It was reported that Sadat may address the joint session of Congress on Nov. 5. No Israeli official has ever addressed the Congress. Congressional sources said the invitation may not he extended in the wake of the UN vote linking Zionism with racism. Meanwhile, in advance of Sadat's visit, Defense Secre- tary James R. Schlesinger said that the U.S. govern- ment would look "with some sympathy" on Israel's re- quest for long-range Persh- ing missiles.
