France's Chief Rabbi Scores
Executions of Five Spaniards

PARIS (JTA) — The
Chief Rabbi of France, Ja-
cob Kaplan, Wednesday de-
nounced the executions in
Spain as contrary to the
moral conscience of human-
ity.
In a public communique,
Rabbi Kaplan said he is
raising his voice to
"condemn the executions
and to protest the fact that
none of the clemency ap-
peals addressed to Spanish

The Representative Coun-
cil of French Jewish Organi-
zations was one of the nu-
merous world-wide bodies
which asked Franco not to
execute the five Spanish ac-
tivists who were shot last
Saturday after having been
convicted of killing police-
men.

Two were members of
the Basque Nation and
Freedom organization.
Originally 11 death sent-
ences has been handed
down by the Franco gov-
ernment but six received
clemency after an outpour-
ing of worldwide anger.

Lawyers' Group
to City Lindsay

NEW YORK — Dean
Norman Redlich of New
York University Law School
and Dr. Max M. Kample-
man, president of the Amer-
ican Friends of the Hebrew
University, will present the
Torch of Learning Award to
John V. Lindsay at the fifth
annual luncheon of the
Greater New York Lawyers
Division of the American
Friends Tuesday at the Wal-
dorf-Astoria.
Lindasy, who was New
York City mayor from
1966-1974, recently com-
pleted his first novel. Dur-
ing his term in office, he
was instrumental in helping
Jews leave the Soviet Union
as they sought to emigrate
to Israel.
