for Bicentennial
WASHINGTON — Bnai
Brith will celebrate the
American Bicentennial with
a series of programs focus-
ing on the development of
Jewish communal life in
this country.
A year-long observance
will begin formally Oct. 12
with ceremonies on the site
of New York's lower East
Side where Bnai Brith was
founded in 1843.
In other communities,
Bnai Brith Sabbath will be
celebrated this month at
scores of temples and syn-
agogues.
Activities ranging from
collecting oral histories and
researching small-town
Jewish life to a rededication
of the Statue of Religious
Liberty — a Bnai Brith gift
to the nation during the
1876 centennial — are - being
arranged by a joint Bnai
