The Flint Jewish Commu-
nity Council's Adult Educa-
tion series will begin its sec-
ond year 8:15 p.m.
Wednesday at Temple Beth
El. Classes are slated Oct.
22, 29, Nov. 5, 12, Dec. 3, 10
and 17.
There will be a five-week
break between semesters.
The second semester will be-
gin Jan. 28.
Registration is limited to
45 participants, and will be
accepted for either one or
both semesters. Tuition will
cover the cost of all required
reading materials, and
there will be a discount for
married couples willing to
share materials.

Dr. Joseph Cohen, educa-
tional consultant, will meet
with the community educa-
tion committee 7:30 p.m.
Monday at the Council of-
fice.
The committee is made up
of representatives from
Cong. Beth Israel, Temple
Beth El and the Flint Jew-
ish Community Council.
Milton Panzer is chair-
man of the subcommittee on
school structure; Arnold
Schaffer is vice chairman.
The sub-committee on fi-
nancing and relationships is
chaired by Michael Pelavin,
with Marvin Levey and Mur-
ray Moss as vice chairmen.

for Bicentennial

WASHINGTON — Bnai
Brith will celebrate the
American Bicentennial with
a series of programs focus-
ing on the development of
Jewish communal life in
this country.
A year-long observance
will begin formally Oct. 12
with ceremonies on the site
of New York's lower East
Side where Bnai Brith was
founded in 1843.
In other communities,
Bnai Brith Sabbath will be
celebrated this month at
scores of temples and syn-
agogues.
Activities ranging from
collecting oral histories and
researching small-town
Jewish life to a rededication
of the Statue of Religious
Liberty — a Bnai Brith gift
to the nation during the
1876 centennial — are - being
arranged by a joint Bnai
Brith-Bnai Brith Women
Bicentennial committee.

Holocaust Heroine

Jeanne Daman, a non-Jew
who helped rescue Jewish
children during the Holo-
caust, will address the lead-
ership development group of
a Flint Jewish Community
Council 7:30 p.m. Sunday in
the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Silverman, 6220
Sierra Pass.
Miss Daman, a Catholic
who defied the Nazis and
joined the Jewish under-
ground, has her name in-
scribed on the Avenue of the
Righteous Gentiles at Yad
Vashem in Jewusalem.
Her efforts to save the
Jewish children are chroni-
cled in "Their Brothers'
Keeper" by Philip Freed-
man.
