Hadassah Leader Urges Action
For Adoption of Mideast Pact

Action by all who are con-
cerned that available steps
towards peace in the Middle
East should encourage
prompt adoption of the U.
S.-arranged pact between
Israel and Egypt was urged
here this week by a national
leader of Hadassah.
Mrs. Edward H. Lewis of
New York, national trea-
surer of Hadassah, in an ad-
dress here at the commence-
ment of a new year of
Hadassah activities, at Tem-
ple Beth El, Tuesday,
conceded that there are
many obstacles on the road
to, a hoped-for-peace. But
the opportunities for a step
towards a continuing cease
fire offered by the-agree-
ments arranged by Secre-
tary of State Henry A. Kis-
singer are the most
encouraging in the present
crisis and call for immediate
adoption.

In her address at the
public meeting and at an
earlier meeting with lead-
ers of local Hadassah and
,major contributors for the
Israel medical organiza-
tion, at the home of Dr.
and Mrs. Jerome Kauf-
man, Mrs. Lewis outlined
the Hadassah activities in
Israel which will reach a
high mark with the re-
opening of the Mt. Scopus
Hadassah medical center
the end of this month.

In her analyses of Hadas-
sah's progressive steps to-
wards the re-orientation of
Scopus activities after their
interruption by the Jordan-
ian occupation of 20 years,
Mrs. Lewis pointed to the
following facts:
The Hadassah Hospital
on Mount Scopus was cut
off from Israel after 1948,
but was recovered as a re-
sult of the Six-Day War.
Unfortunately, the hospital
was found in a state of utter
desolation.
Hadassah is undertaking
a $6 million program to re-
