her non-intervention policy
if the balance between Mos-
lems and Christians in Le-
banon is upset by an outside
power.
Foreign Minister Yigal
Allon in a radio interview
last weekend said that Is-
rael will not intervene as
long as no other nation does.
Allon added that he did not
believe the intervention
would be necessary.

But Allon's chief reac-
tion to the Lebanese fight-
ing was that it demon-
strated the impossibility
of the democratic secular
state that the PLO claims
it wants to create in place
of Israel.

"The reality in Lebanon
refutes this argument and
with all our regret for the
fate of the Christians in
Lebanon we draw attention
to this fact to prove how
senseless the PLO theory
is," Allon said.
Meanwhile, Israeli Chris-
tian Arabs, many of whom
have families in Lebanon,
are disturbed by the situa-
tion there. Although a cease-
fire was declared last Mon-
day, at least 10 persons
were reported killed in
shootings and explosions
since then.

NEW YORK — A
54-year-old Orthodox Jew
was shot to death Sept. 26 in
Brooklyn after he explained
to a holdup man he was car-
rying no money.
The victim, Israel. Turner,
was killed in front of his
home after returning from a
Sukkot holiday celebration
at the headquarters of the
Lubavitcher Movement
nearby.
He also carried no keys
for the Sabbath, so Turner
called for his wife. As she
opened the window of their
apartment, she saw two
robbers confront him.
According to a neighbor,
the Turners had been in-
mates in the Auschwitz con-
centration camp, and had
seen members of their fam-
ily tortured:
Minutes after the shoot-
ing, police arrested Larry
Pilgrim of Brooklyn as he
alledgedly tried to hide a
pistol in some bushes two
blocks from the scene. A
ballistics report said' the
gun was the murder
weapon.
